This is a very nice sounding set of soundboard recordings from B.B. King at the legendary Fillmore East. I intended on posting this tribute to The King Of The Blues earlier but the Filefactory snafu made me run a little late. I couldn't think of a better tribute, from my collection, than this pair of shows. I've kicked this set out quite often in my car on the way to work. I can't get enough of it, and highly recommend it. It has a nice clean sound for a 1971 soundboard.

Out-takes from recording of Rock In A Hard Place in Miami, The absence of Tyler during the some of the period is reflected by the number of tracks which are instrumental versions. A few have Tyler ad-libbing vocals.

"Gut Bucket Blues" (instrumental) and "Take It Or Leave It" #13 eventually became "Bolivian Ragamuffin".

The alternate version of "Bitches Brew" is an instrumental.

A version of "Riff and Roll" turned up on Pandora's Box but recorded at The Power Station, NYC in Sept. 81, a year earlier.

The version of "Joanie's Butterfly" is an instrumental which is how Crespo intended it`to be until Tyler added lyrics from a dream he had. "Jailbait", "Cry Me A River" and "Lightning Strikes" are also primitive versions of the final songs.

Filefactory Issue

OK Filefactory had a couple servers crash recently so they were unavailable for a couple days. Then when they come back on line, some files were lost. Not that many actually but some. Also some servers are working slowly, when this happens free users are given the message that the server is too busy please try back later. This is to give paying customers enough band width, (their practice not mine) I will be working to re-upload the files that are missing and the ones that are on the affected servers. Please be patient as it will take a little time to fix the links. I work 60 plus hours a week at my job so I only have limited time to make posts and re-posts so bear with me a little.

When asking for a re-post of a file please don't just write "File is not working" or copy and past the error code into the comments section. It would be nice if the words please and thank you get used in the request. Also let me know if it is the Flac or MP3 link you are having trouble with, it will save me the time of figuring out which file is needed so I can make the re-post for you that much faster.

My first exposure to the music of Rory Gallagher came from a copy of Calling Card that my cousin had found outside in a mud puddle. It was an 8-track tape (yep I'm that old) , so to make it playable I had to un-spool the thing, dry it out then re-spool it. I finished that process and stuck it in the tape deck and was a fan of Rory ever since. So it is nice to have a broadcast recording from that era for my collection. It's a short on, less than an hour, but Rory and band are fired up and give a great performance. A reporter who was in the audience wasn't impressed at Rory's performance and wrote a rather unfavorable review which has been included so you can see read it yourself (it's actually only the first page of the article).

Another Tribute To Miles gig, if you downloaded and loved the show from Pinede Gould,Juan-les-Pins, France July 15, 2011 posted earlier on The New JDP then you're going to love this one as well. If your like me you always need at least 2 nice sounding gigs (or as many as you can get) from a certain era of a performer. If that's so grab this one, you will not be disappointed.
The Théâtre Antique was built in the First Century of the Christian era of the Roman Empire. It was the second largest the largest in Gaul with a capacity of 13,000 spectators. The modern capacity is held to 8000. The amphitheater has an annual concert series from Jazz to Pop, as well as hosting plays.

A good sounding recording, Stevie states at the beginning of the show that he has laryngitis but will do his best. Stevie's vocals might not be quite up to par, but he more than makes up for it with his other voice. His guitar playing more than makes up for a few bad notes, check out the interplay between Stevie and keyboardist Reese Wynans during "Look At Little Sister", for example. It's not like Stevie sounds like Lemmy from Motörhead, he does a decent job singing in spite of his illness. Everyone will still enjoy this show, obsessive fanatic and casual fan alike.

Draftervoi's Notes:
This was part of a three cd set of a Labor Day special, featuring sets by Stevie Nicks, Kansas, and the Moody Blues.  I only have the Moody Blues set.  It appears that the common theme is that the bands were all recorded at the Whisky A Go Go, a small nightclub that holds about 250 people.  As such, the room ambiance is different from the usual Moody Blues usual "amphitheater" sound; you really feel they're close to the audience.

The syndicating network is Entertainment Radio Networks, which is much less common than King Biscuit, Westwood One, or NBC's The Source shows.

The cue sheet has "Question" identified as "Christian."  There is a song listed after that as "Ceasar," which is presumably "See-Saw" (as in "Ride My See-Saw", and yes, "Ceasar" is not spelled correctly).  It is likely that the performance continued on after "Question" and that further song(s) were cut to fit the one hour format.

I left in the X Files premiere commercial because I liked the X Files.  The other commercials were edited out.  I repaired a few minor digi-glitch pops and normalized each track.

JustDave's Notes:
The Kansas portion of this show has been officially released as Live At The Whisky. I have an FM recording of the Stevie Nicks portion that I will be posting at a future date.
