Short broadcast from Krokus promoting the Metal Rendez-vous release. Metal Rendez-vous was the first Krokus album to feature vocalist Marc Storace, it was also the first to break through on American Radio. Metal Rendez-vous was also my first Krokus album, recommended by a fellow Metalhead in my school and guitarist for a rival band that I had much respect for. When I popped the record on it wasn't an immediate love affair. What made me like the band and album was a very short live recording. This was quite a few years ago so I can't remember where the recording was made but it proved that Krokus was a damn good live act.

When I first got a chance to see Krokus it was as the opening act for Def Leppard for the Leppard's first Detroit headline show. A show I was very eager to see having seen Def Leppard on their High And Dry tour in Ohio. I may offend some Def Leppard fans but Krokus kick Def Leppard's ass all over that Detroit stage. It had the same effect as seeing Van Halen blow Black Sabbath off the stage in Detroit, I became a fan for life!

Oh Yeah! Krokus on tour to promote Hardware. The first Krokus album I bought was One Vice At A Time. I heard "Long Stick Goes Boom" on the radio, on the late night program. The late night program on WRIF-FM was different than the Day shift. Late night you might get whole albums played. They were a little looser with what they would play. When The Plasmatics Beyond The Valley Of 1984 was released they played it in it's entirety. When The Clash released London Calling they did the same. Some nights just what ever the DJ wanted to play and requests. I got them to play Black Sabbath's "Spiral Architect" when the only Black Sabbath you heard on the radio was "Paranoid", "Iron Man" and "Heaven And Hell". Hell I got them to play ELP's "Tarkus" dude on the phone sounded as high as I was...am

So my first chance to see Krokus came when they opened for Def Leppard at Joe Louis Arena. I think the Krokus set might have been broadcast. I read an interview with Marc Storace where he was quoted saying "We were kicked off the Def Leppard tour. They were jealous because we got a better reaction every night." Now Krokus kicked ass, mind you it's a foggy memory, but I remember Def Leppard being just as good. The second time I saw them was at The Fox Theater in Detroit. They were on a tour with W.A.S.P., Metallica and some other band that I can not remember. Metallica was still underground on tour to promote Ride The Lightning. You couldn't walk out of The Fox that night without some kind of impression of Metallica. They were in the middle of the show, louder and so much heavier than the rest. I had already been a fan since Kill' Em All. Already playing Thrash myself. There were a lot of people that, unlike me and a few others, had never heard Metallica. That was my last Krokus show, my band started getting regular shows in the 1980s, I caught some shows missed a lot....

I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I then used Goldwave to re-edit track marks and adjust the volume. No EQ or noise reduction was used. No remastering done. The resulting waves were lossy so I encoded them to MP3 320kbps using trader's Little Helper.

Krokus has released it's 2014 Baloise Session on Blue Ray DVD. They have not released the 2019 Baloise Session, which this comes from. This is the complete show as broadcast.

Krokus did this Baloise Session while on their Farewell Tour. Unfortunately for their US fans the tour never hit our shores. Krokus hasn't toured the US in some time since touring is very expensive and their wasn't enough demand for Krokus shows to make a tour financially viable. So this audio rip shall serve as a teaser of what that tour may have been like.

Mandy Meyer only toured with the band for the Hardware album due to Tommy Kiefer leaving the band. Mark Kohler would replace Mandy after the tour cycle. When Marc Storace joined Krokus as lead vocalist Tommy Kiefer, original lead vocalist, became just a bass player. He didn't stay long. This was also the time of the bands sonic shift from a Progressive Rock band to a Heavy Metal band. The era from Metal Rendez-vous to Headhunter is my favorite of the band. It was a more raw AC/DC inspired sound. When the band made a hit record with the power ballad "Screaming In The Night" they had to follow it up and the corporate unit shifters said "We need more hits, bigger hits!" the band caved like they all do and began a more commercial chart chasing Los Angeles Hair Band sound that turned me off. They got better after getting off the commercial money train. The band has retired, a planned North Ameican Farewll Tour was squashed by Coovid-19.
