Ahhh If You knew Suzi like Detroit knows Suzi, she wouldn't be an opening act. The woman who played Leather Tuscadero, Fonzi's girlfriend on Happy Days Can Really Rock!! Although diminutive in stature (she is shorter than her bass) she is a 10 foot tall Live Rock n Roll Powerhouse. Even my Mom knows who Suzi Quatro is due to the song "Can The Can" which my Mom bought on 45RPM single. You know Mike Millard didn't record too many opening acts so there is another stamp of approval for checking out Suzi Quatro!

The file set had both 16bit/44,1khz and 24bit/44,1khz files. I decoded the files and set all to 16bit/44,1khz then re-encoded the waves using Trader's Little Helper and aligning all sector boundaries.

This is a really nice sounding soundboard recording from the Self Destruct Tour to promote The Downward Spiral. Although I'm not a huge fan of Nine Inch Nails I do like The Downward Spiral a lot. It still gets play here around the house, as well as Further Down The Spiral which I also really like. I have to be in the mood for Industrial Music or Techno but there are some bands I really like. I mean I own a huge KMFDM collection including a lot of singles and maybe 2 different versions of each album...anyway Trent Reznor does have a hand in a few of my favorite Industrial albums. The Downward Spiral of course, also included would be Marilyn Manson's Portrait Of An American Family and Rob Halford's band 2wo released only one album Voyeurs which I really like.

Back, back, back in the day (yes we are that damn old) in the early days of the Thrash Metal Underground, Slayer was also included in the list of bands considered Black Metal. In the early days of the Heavy Metal Underground a band was considered to be a Black Metal Band if they wrote Satanic lyrics. It didn't matter if they played Thrash like Slayer or Heavy Metal like Mercyful Fate. This was before the Norwegian Black Metal scene built a sound on the recordings of 2 bands (actually 3 but Hellhammer is Celtic Frost) Bathory and Hellhammer/Celtic Frost. Even though a lot of the Norwegian bands site Mercyful Fate as an influence the fans that followed them don't consider Mercyful Fate as a Black Metal band. I didn't really care but hey it makes for conversation. For me Slayer was an influence on that my band wanted to be faster than Slayer or Metallica....and we were.

This one is to help everyone to get over the hump today. The weekend is almost here so lets Rock! This is a great recording and the band sounds like they are really enjoying making music together. The audience sounds like they are really enjoying it too. They don't get in the way much but are present in the mix. It's a Millard recording of Stephen Stills and guest Bonnie Bramlett a name that should be a whole lot more well known in Classic Rock than it is. One of the most under rated vocalists of the 1970s along with Marcy "Marcella Detroit" Levey. Both ladies had more Soul in their voice than a church choir. Enjoy my friends!!

Jack Russell passed away August 7, 2024 due to complications from Lewy Body Dementia, he was 63.

I remember the first time I heard Great White's self titled debut album. My guitar player and I had gotten together to talk music so we each could see where the other is coming from musically. I showed up at his place with a stack of LPs and cassettes and a bag of weed. We sat for hours getting high and listening to each others offerings. After telling him besides the Thrash and Punk I had a big collection of commercial Metal bands like Krokus and Tesla. He pulled out Great White's debut, the original edition not the remixed version, I loved it. I ended up leaving him my Voivod & Candlemass lps while I took home his Dead Kennedys and Great White Lps. The first record has an edge to it that Great White's following lps didn't. Their sound was heavier but the following albums had some great songs no doubt about it. This is a nice sounding recording that I think you guys will all enjoy.

Another BigO Archive show from The New JDP's Collection. I can't believe how many shows I downloaded from them over the years. I have started re-cataloguing my Bootleg Drives with certain collections in their own folders. I have all my boots cataloged by Genre, Artist, Year which is how I have my CDs and such cataloged. What I'm now doing is cataloging certain collections apart from the rest such as Mike Millard recordings, BigO postings, Tool Drive, Black Sabbath Family, Deep Purple Family and other bands that have larger collections than most. Anyway below is what BigO said about the post (I always copied their little blurbs). Hope you enjoy this one!

There are some jazz artistes with distinctive “voices”. Miles Davis was one of them. Cecil Taylor, on the other hand, defies being pigeonholed. His music has been described as “It’s fast and it’s furious. It’s very nearly incomprehensible…” To some, the pianist-composer is known for the “brilliance and audacious beauty of his music”. And the term “genius” is also seldom far behind.

Try listening to 1985’s Winged Serpent and you might find yourself crushed under the weight of the densely textured free jazz. Even on his solo piece here, one can easily imagine some internal battle raging on.

This was Taylor’s first time in Donaueschingen and the show included solos by Bill Dixon and Tony Oxley but unfortunately the radio station (SWR 2) did not air them. Perhaps these solos will surface one day.

This is what trumpeter Bill Dixon wrote about the gig in allaboutjazz:

In October, I went to Baden Baden, the Donaueschingen Event, at the invitation of Cecil Taylor… The format for the performances had… three solos that preceded a short break that then led into a tutti performance by the trio. Oxley always took the first solo orchestrated to permit him maximum leverage and continuity to reveal the focus of his musical interests and concerns.

I took the second solo which let me, knowing what had preceded my entrance and what was to follow it, work with maximum freedom [and]… paved the way for the next solo which was that of Taylor.

The short period of silence that followed permitted the dynamic of the totality of the trio to come to terms with all that had existed [musically] previously. A fitting way, in my opinion when one is able to understand and appreciate both the freedoms and responsibilities that are resolutely attached to this kind of performance that the uninformed prefer to label, erroneously as “free”.

This is a great sounding show from the Bill Conners era of Return To Forever. Bill Conners left in April 1974. He stated that he had musical differences with the shift toward a more Rock fusion sound, which he likened to Mahavishnu Orchestra. He also stated that he had a growing dislike for Chick Corea's Scientology way of running the band. After leaving Bill Conners started acting as a session musician playing with John Abercrombie and ex-bandmate Stanley Clarke. Bill Conners also released his own albums which included some acoustic guitar recordings. Of course all fans know he was replaced with one Al Di Meola. So let's all enjoy a little Return To Forever this Sunday Morning!
