Everyone who follows the blog knows I love Jazz bands playing songs from non-Jazz songwriters. Jazz Guitarist Bill Frisell has worked with his present quartet for long enough that they didn't figure out the arraignments to the songs before entering the studio. As Bill Frisell said in an interview they "..just went for it." The album they were recording was All We Are Saying ... A Tribute To The Music Of John Lennon. The songs, though arraigned for a Jazz Quartet, are not unrecognizable. The band let the melodies of the original songs guide the arrangement. I think lovers of John Lennon solo and Beatles material will love this show, so download it, it's not a Jazzy Freak out. Jazz lovers that doesn't mean this is Muzak.
