There is a fade out in track 2 at about 6:50 the track fades back in presumably a tape flip or removal of a commercial. Other than that this is a very fine recording. Nice and clear allowing the power of the music to shine through. This is the Eric Burdon Band and it was more of a hard rock sound than anything Eric had done up to that time. The show is simply awesome with tracks from Burdon's solo career, the then unreleased Mirage project as well as re-workings of Animals classics. "When I Was Young", "It's My Life" and "House Of The Rising Sun" have more of a bite. The music meant as a reflection of the times as Eric saw them. War, Starvation, Racism, and Corruption all filtered through over driven Marshall stacks and pounding primal rhythms.

*Alan Price left The Animals in 1965 and was replaced by Mick Gallagher who played on the studio release of  "We Got To Get Out Of This Place" he was replaced by Dave Rowberry later in 1965.

This short but sweet Pre-FM puts The Animals early BBC Radio performances in the spotlight. The Animals, with their raw, ruckus performances of Heavy Blues music were an important part in the evolution of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal. Like The Yardbirds, The Animals took the Blues that they loved, turned up the volume and played with an energy their aging heroes couldn't muster on stage. 100's of bands would form in The Animals wake, as fans tried to emulate their local grown heroes. In the following years as more musicians took influence to new levels the evolution would lead to the Hard Rock of Led Zeppelin and Heavy Metal of Black Sabbath.

This isn't the Long Haired Leaping Gnome of "Spill The Wine", this is an angry music akin to something Iggy Pop would be known for. I LIKE IT !! (Don't get me wrong I love War!) No horns or congas, just bass, drums, guitar and vocals. The performance centers around songs from the then unreleased soundtrack to Eric Burdon's movie MIRAGE. "She Stole My Heart Away" starts with monk throat chanting and is peppered with visions of a monk self immolating in front of MP's. "Jim Crow" is accented with visuals of Native American Warriors & Chiefs, while "River of Blood" is performed under overpowering blood red lights. The recording is very listenable with or without a little EQ.

About Mirage per Wikipedia:
Mirage was recorded as an album by Eric Burdon and The Eric Burdon Band in 1973 during the "Mirage Project". It was not released until February 27, 2008 by Universal.
Four "Mirage" sessions were released as a bootleg.
Mirage was scheduled to be released by Atlantic on June 1974. It never was. In 2006 AIM released a compilation Wild & Wicked which features some tracks of the Mirage project and the later "Comeback Project".
The album was also about the Vietnam War. The United Artists film Mirage was never made.
