- There is a locked groove show promo at the end of Side 4, which has been encoded.
- Show is hosted but the host never identifies himself.

Editing Notes:
- A Zerostat Positive Ion gun was used on LP prior to playback.
- A carbon fiber record brush, then a felt disc cleaner was used on the record prior to playback.
- Records hand cleaned with Record Research Lab Super Record Wash before playback.
- LP cleaned with the HumminGuru Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning System prior to playback.
- Raw transfer: EQ off, treble and bass levels set at +/- zero for most accurate sound of LP.
- Turntable balanced: Needle Tracking, Azimuth, Pressure & Antiskid Dialed In: Soundcard stereo field maximized: Goldwave always set to record while filtering any offset.
- Recording and all editing done in 24bit/96khz.
- Preservation being key the show is encoded complete with commercials and voiceovers.
- Both manually de-clicked and some Pop Fix used depending on what got the best result

- Show is another in the RARE "Pop Concert Series" Westwood One Concerts & Specials from Westwood One. Some of the shows were Concerts while some were actually "Star Profiles". The counterpart of the "Pop Concert Series" is Westwood One Startrak Profiles / Westwood One Startrak Profiles - In Concert. As titled some are "Star Profiles" while others are Concerts. They both seem to have the same PC lettering system.

While this show was intended to be a single broadcast I've broken the songs up by group, in case people want only one or two of the groups for their collection.

Atlanta radio station WKLS-FM and Capricorn Records co-sponsored a one-time show "The Rebel Jam" featuring three of the labels acts: Stillwater, Dixie Dregs, and Sea Level.  The finale featured a jam by members of all three groups, joined by J.D. Mangrum of Black Oak Arkansas and Larry Berwald from Wet Willie.

It was a free concert. WKLS-FM listeners registered at local record stores and when your name was drawn and called out over the air, you had 24 hours to claim your tickets by calling the radio station.

It proved a popular idea, so 96 Rock broadcast the show live.  This is NOT from the live broadcast, however.  Capricorn Records recorded the show on a 24-track mobile recording studio, and mixed and edited it down to three reel-to-reel tapes.  Capricorn distributed the tapes to stations in the Superstars Radio Network (there's an additional essay with more information on the Superstars Radio Network included). Based on our prior research, there were probably about 40 stations in the network...and not all of them would have picked up a Southern Rock live show.  We don't know how many stations broadcast the mixed and edited version.

"Out On A Limb," "Mind Bender, "Grand Larceny," and "Refried Funky Chicken" were officially released on a 2-LP Capricorn Records various artists live compilation "Hotels, Motels And Road Shows" in July 1978. A truncated version of the album was issued in Japan in 1989. All of the Rebel Jam songs were on the CD.  There does not appear to be a domestic or European released on CD.

The Ruth Mitchell Dance Company performed during two of Dixie Dreg's songs.  The Internet tells me Ruth Mitchell opened her dance studio in Atlanta in 1957 and that "she loved jazz dancing, and many of the pieces she choreographed reflected that affinity, along with bridging dance into rock music. Her pieces included interpretations of The Alan Parsons Project’s Tales of Edgar Allen Poe, The Who’s Tommy and Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells. Other memorable pieces by Mitchell include Cindy, Archy and Mehitabel, Panopticon and Dark Side of the Moon."

In 1978 in San Francisco, I was all about punk rock: louder, faster, shorter was the order of the day and musical virtuosity was not just suspect but downright opposed. For me, there's a lot on this tape that's very interesting to me.  Southern Rock wasn't as popular in the Bay Area as on its home turf down in Dixie; they wouldn't have broadcast a show like this on local radio.  I'd never heard of Stillwater; had ONE SINGLE FRIEND who listened to the Dixie Dregs, and never heard Sea Level back in the day. So this is a chance for me to hear what I missed in 1978.

All of these band featured virtuoso players; in particular Dixie Dregs and Sea Level stand out as bands I should have paid attention to 1978 had I not been genre snob.

Another show that's not my work, it was uploaded in a big folder on Guitars101 by an uploader named HeresJohnny. He uploaded a lot of shows in a lot of folders that were some of his and some he had collected over the years. So I am not sure who encoded this one. It is a Live From Gilley's Pre-FM complete with the commercials and it's WILLIE!! The words Willie Nelson and Pre-FM recording should be all we need to hear!!

The Great White portion of the show is what I really uploaded this for. It's in tribute to vocalist Jack Russell who died in 2024 from the same disease that killed my Dad, Lewy Body Dementia. I've had it for awhile now all zipped up and ready to go, but broke down every time I tried. Jack Russell had lived with it for years before it was diagnosed like most who have it. He died shortly after being diagnosed, like most who have it. His symptoms were confused as caused by alcohol or drug relapses. He may have had relapses too, he was an addict but... Sadly there is an alcohol and drug association with Lewy Body Dementia but not a proven causation link. There is in chemical poisoning however.

- This was at the end of side 2 of the My Dying Bride Waldrock 2004 cassette.
- This cassette I can not remember who I traded with to get, it was quite a few years ago I haven't traded tapes in a long time.

Editing Notes:
- Recorded & editing done at 24bit/96khz.
- I cleaned up the fade in and fade out of the beginning and end of the recording.
- I also evened the volume between the left and right channels. The left channel having been much louder than the right channel.

Other Notes:
- Promoting the Down III: Over the Under release, the lyrical content of which covers subjects such as the breakup of Pantera, the murder of ex-Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell, the band's anger at the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and Anselmo's recovery from back surgery and drug addiction.
- Down almost didn't let this broadcast happen due to their fear that the cover of When The Levee Breaks wasn't good enough.
- Down formed in 1991 with vocalist/songwriter Phil Anselmo of Pantera, guitarist Pepper Keenan of Corrosion of Conformity, second guitarist Kirk Windstein and bassist Todd Strange of Crowbar, and drummer Jimmy Bower of Eyehategod.
- All of the band members were longtime friends, and shared interest in bands such as Black Sabbath and Saint Vitus, which would significantly influence the music they made.
- The band made a three-track demo for underground trading. In an effort to build a fan base, the band would ask heavy metal fans if they had ever "heard of this band, Down" and hand them copies of the tape without telling the person that they were in the band.
- Eventually, the tape was distributed throughout the United States and Down played a small concert in its hometown. A record executive from Elektra Records was attending the show. When he found out who the members of the band were, he signed Down to a recording contract.

This is not my work but the work of The Krw_co Crew. It's actually edited with all the commercials which is something they rarely do. So I was happy when I found it and now I'm happy to share it with You! The original Krw_co production notes are included with the download.

Included in the download is a copy of Westwood One's ad for the show in Billboard Magazine along with a copy of the Billboard Magazine in question.. Also there is a picture from the gig taken from the website https://www.rockinhouston.com/ . An informative history of Rock Concerts in Houston.

Some of the commercials as well as voice overs were indexed together with songs or each other. I decoded the files, edited the track marks then re-encoded the waves. I did not do any remastering or noise reduction just indexed a couple files and re-encoded. I also put the test tones in their own folder so if you want them they are there.

The Jazz Ensemble called Sphere was founded as a Tribute to Thelonious Monk who's middle name was Sphere. At the time there were already Jazz bands forming In Tribute to the Living Legends in Sphere. Kenny Baron, Charlie Rouse, Buster Williams, and Ben Riley you can not miss when you load up the stage with that much talent. This Quartet is awesome. The music flows easy, even during the solo sections. Every player contributes to great effect without any egos trying to over power the other. This simply is some Great Jazz performed by a Quartet of Fabulous Players.
