Fans of Medeski, Martin & Wood will note that this incarnation has more of a Post-Rock feel to the music than their normal Jazz/Funk vibe. Notes:
Set list does not match the song tracking, but this is the complete performance. There are a lot off songs that ran together and the taper didn't quite know the set. I have left the tracking as is since I couldn't tell either. This will not take away from the listening pleasure of this show since most of the music segues from track to track.

Some Jazz Purists might say this show isn't really Jazz. The Free Form/Improvisational Elements are there as well as a healthy amount of Post-Rock/Metal. This show could please fans of such bands as SunO))), Boris, Merzbow, Pelican, Mogwai, God Speed! You Black Emperor, or mid-era King Crimson. It's not a stretch at all to say if you loved Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music or Mwandishi era Herbie Hancock this show should be in your collection.

Personally when ever Rosebud asks "how long is this one honey?" I know I'm on to something. That is one reason this gem is on heavy rotation at the home nest.

As promised last week here is a great performance from The Nels Cline Singers. Despite the name no one in the band sings, this is Instrumental Free Form Jazz. If you enjoyed last weeks show with Nels Cline joining forces with Medeski, Martin & Wood you should definitely check this one out. Also since Nels is a member of Wilco this should be of interest to fans of that band as well. The second disc is the part of the show that was not broadcast on the radio and is very listenable.

Part 2 of our spotlight on guitarist Nels Cline and our 4th Sunday Morning Jazz offering is a fine recording from his own project the Nels Cline Singers. Despite the name their is no singer in the group, their is a slight bit of chanting on one track. The band plays Free Form Jazz with a Post-Rock flavor. Fans of such bands as Mogwai, Swans, Pelican, Boris, God Speed! You Black Emperor, or even King Crimson should check this group out. Fans of Wilco may also be interested to know what Nels Cline does on his off nights. Fans of Experimental Music this is some great genre busting music. I highly recommend this recording and might I suggest using headphones and playing loud.
