Gary Numan was one of the New Wave Synth- Pop artists that I really liked. A lot of the artists such as Ebonozen or Men Without Hats just didn't do anything for me. You never know who you will like or not till you hear them. I loved The Pleasure Principle, it had some very well written, well played songs. That's what matters right? if it fits your vibe or not.

The Bad Plus is quite simply a great Jazz Ensemble. They have worked with quite a few of the big names in Jazz. They have been regulars on The New JDP since we started posting Jazz shows. This is yet another quality recording of one of their own shows. I know I say it a lot but this show is a great listen and addition to your Jazz Collections. They really are one of my favorite bands.

Paul Carrack, what can I say. I was in school when Squeeze were at their height of their career. A kid in my art class was a big New Wave fan, skunk hair do and all. In art class our teacher let us bring in our own records to listen to during class. So Eric (his name) always brought in stuff like The B52's, and a bunch of other New Wave that wasn't my cup of tea. So he brings in Squeeze's East Side Story. I'm ready for like Flock Of Seagulls Synth Pop. The music was some of the best Pop Music I had heard in a while. When "Tempted" came on, the soulful voice of Paul Carrack was just icing on the cake. When side one was over I asked for it to be played again. Eric says something like "You sure you don't want to hear Black Sabbath?" I said something like, "No You finally brought in someone with talent play it again". So we listened to the whole album twice before it was changed to something else.

Nice sound quality, the problems mentioned in the track list are equipment problems not sound or broadcast. King's X is a big favorite around our house and circle of friends. When your circle of friends are your Thrash Metal band, longtime roadies and other bands you tend to listen to a lot of things not Metal. When we were touring or writing new material we never listened to bands that make the same kind of music. Myself it's lots of Bob Seger, Joe Walsh (You Bought It You Name It is Genius!!), and King's X. My guitar player turned me on to them. He had read that they were the favorite band of Slayer's vocalist Tom Araya. He said it was one of his everyday go to bands. Unfortunately this is the tragedy of King's X. They seem to be a big musicians band but never quite caught the large audiences their music deserves. This band has vocal harmonies that would make The Beatles, Beach Boys, and Eagles take notice their mix of Hard Rock and Power Pop Melodies really set the band apart from most bands who debut at the same time. For those who haven't heard King's X I have a few of their shows on the blog (here). Check them all out, each show is worth it!!!

Pretty good sounding recording from the early days of Anthrax. The band was touring for Spreading The Disease. It was their Major Label debut, also their first album with then new singer Joey Belladonna. The E.P. Armed And Dangerous had sold okay but a lot of fans thought Neil Turbin was a better singer. I was and still am a member of that club. I also was slow to accept the change in style of music when Spreading The Disease was released. When a band has fired the core song writers who wrote or co-wrote every track on their debut, the follow up might sound a little different. The album had to grow on me, which didn't happen till after Among The Living. Kind of ironic the few songs I did like right off were written with the help of Dan Lilker and Neil Turban.

I do however like the chance to compare Joey Belledaonna's vocals on the early tracks to those of Neil Turban. Joey is okay but there are notes he can not hit that Neil could.

Helloween was one of the first of the German Underground bands I heard. A friend of mine brought over his new copies of Helloween's Walls Of Jericho album and Running Wild's Branded And Exiled. I was an instant fan, not of both bands, Running Wild for some reason had to grow on me. I was actually disappointed when Helloween released Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part 1. It was a bit of a change. The early output was Thrash/Speed Metal while Keeper was the birth of a new kind of Power Metal and Progressive Metal. It grew on me.

This recording is a little (little) rough for an FM recording. It's not unlistenable. On the contrary I think it adds to the Underground Metal Vibe myself. The art included doesn't have the correct track listing. It also has a picture of Michael Kiske on the back cover. Michael isn't in the line up as of this recording.

1974 Cobo Hall Arena, J. Geils Band live. Not going to say I was there because I wasn't. I didn't catch Geils live for a few more years. At Pine Knob I think. I was a diehard fan that really wanted to see them that November. I was given a copy of the Live: Full House album by my Aunt Red and it blew me away! Hard hitting Bluesy, R & B, Boogie Rock & Roll. I wasn't too impressed with their last 2 albums actually. Love Stinks was a pretty good album but I always skipped "Love Stinks" and "No Anchovies Please". Freeze Frame had a couple moments but You're Gettin' Even, While I'm Gettin' Odd plain sucked (I know I own a very pristine condition hardly played vinyl copy). It was the only J.Geils Band album not to have an official CD release. There was an unauthorized CD pressed in Japan. It however sounds like it was mastered from a vinyl copy as well.
