The King Biscuit Flower Hour recorded 4 complete shows at The Bottom Line in 1978. I would like to hear that broadcast, with the song lengths they would have to do some heavy editing to fit their format. Just like they did for Frank Zappa's appearance, although Zappa himself had a hand in editing that one. This recording is long, almost 3 hours, but doesn't feel like you're sitting through a screening of Ben Hur. It's a great show with some sections, to me at least, reflecting similar musical ground that Frank Zappa would be plowing in the 1970s. Again not derivative but in the same area. Just to give the uninitiated an idea, if you like Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jan Hammer Band, Frank Zappa or George Duke you will most likely want this.

Known Faults:
- No actual faults like skips or bumps just the normal possible faults in vinyl sources detailed below.
- A few artifacts may be heard here and there that were not possible too remove without marring the sound more than the artifact itself.
- There also may be vinyl noises that were missed in editing.

Recording Notes:
- There is a test tone at the beginning of Record 1 Side A for DJs to set levels and balance before broadcasting the show. It was not encoded.
- There are 2 loked groove show promo beds athe the end of Record 1 Side A one with a voiceover from Bill Minkin one with music only. They were encoded and moved to the end of the show.
- This is the only King Biscuit Flower Hour broadcast of Bobby & The Midnites in concert.

Editing Notes:
- A Zerostat Positive Ion gun was used on LPs prior to playback.
- A carbon fiber record brush, then a microfiber disc cleaner was used on the records prior to playback.
- Records hand cleaned with Record Research Lab Super Record Wash before playback.
- LP cleaned with the HumminGuru Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning System using distilled water prior to playback.
- Raw transfer: EQ off, treble and bass levels set at +/- zero for most accurate sound of LP.
- Turntable & tone arm balanced: Needle Tracking & Azimuth set: Needle Pressure & Antiskid digitaly set:
- Computer Soundcard stereo field maximized.
- Goldwave set to record while filtering any DC Offset.
- Recording and all editing done in 24bit/96khz.
- Preservation being key the show is encoded complete with commercials and voiceovers.
- Declicked manually and some noise reduction used depending on what best served the situation.
- Raised the volume of the commercials to match that of the music and voice overs.
- A rumble filter with an initial cut off of 50khz and a static steepness of 2 was used to lessen the needle noise on the commercials due to having to raise the volume to match that of the music and voice overs.

Other Notes:
- Bobby & The Midnites was the main solo vehical for Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead in the early 1980s.
- The band also had some famous Jazz Fusion players as members, Billy Cobham of Mahavishnu Orchestra and Weather Report and Alphonso Johnson also from Weather Report.
- Midnites lead guitar player Bobby Cochran played in Steppenwolf amongst others and Dave Garland was a successful songwriter and session player.
- The Huey Lewis portion of the show, if I am right about the date, was broadcast by MTV.
- Huey Lewis was the harmonica player on Thin Lizzy's Classic Album Black Rose playing on both "Sarah" and "With Love". He also played on Phil Lynott's Solo In Soho tracks "Tattoo (Giving It All Up for Love)" whichj he covers here and "Ode to a Black Man". Heuy Lewis also played harmonica on Nick Lowe's Labou Of Lust, Dave Edmunds' Repeat When Necessary, City Boy's The Day The Earth Caught Fire and on USA For Africa's "We Are The World".

I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I the used Goldwave to raise and even the overall volume, and to edit track marks. No EQ or noise reduction was used. Since the DVD had lossy audio I encoded the waves to MP3 320kbps with Traders Little Helper.

The original up-loader of the DVD this came from included a bonus track from Mahavishnu Orchestra's performance at The Pre-Olympic Games "Jazz Now" Festival, Kongress Saal, Munich, Germany August 17, 1972. The complete broadcast of that show can be found here on this blog.

Awesome reunion of two members from the classic Mahavishnu Orchestra line-up. John McLaughlin and Billy Cobham had not played together since the split of Mahavishnu Orchestra. The two got together at Montreux Jazz Festival at the request of festival organizer Claude Nobs. Seems a band pulled out of the festival and Claude had a time slot to fill. He asked McLaughlin and Cobham if they would like to get together and play a couple Mahavishnu Orchestra tunes and they both agreed, to the joy of fans everywhere.
