Known Faults:
- Cue sheet was not included with purchase.
- Westwood One packs over 50 minutes of music and commercials on one Live From Gilley's LP.
- That makes for tighter grooves, making it harder to fight needle damage noise.
- Record was rated Good Minus by the seller due to all the small scratches on the album.
- There is a spot on the vinyl that looks like it was "bleached out", it is almost white, and is full of static. The spot is in the intro to the song "Bottle Of Tears" and is thick with a fuzz that can not be removed without making another sound problem to fix. It was left alone. No music is marred by this problem just Gene's spoken intro.
Recording Notes:
- There was no show promo on this album
- At the end of "This Dream's On Me" someone lights of firecrackers in the bar. This causes the guitarist to flub a note but Gene Watson just says "Well somebody's happy" and carries on with the show.
- This Gene Watson Live From Gilley's show, #LG-87-37, was not listed on Discogs.
Editing Notes:
- A Zerostat Positive Ion gun was used on LP prior to playback.
- A carbon fiber record brush, then a microfiber disc cleaner was used on the record prior to playback.
- Records hand cleaned with Record Research Lab Super Record Wash before playback.
- LP cleaned with the HumminGuru Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning System prior to playback.
- Raw transfer: EQ off, treble and bass levels set at +/- zero for most accurate sound of LP.
- Turntable balanced: Needle Tracking, Azimuth Set: Needle Pressure Digitally Dialed In:
- Soundcard stereo field maximized
- Goldwave always set to record while filtering any offset.
- Recording and all editing done in 24bit/96khz.
- Preservation being key the show is encoded complete with commercials and voiceovers.
- Declicked manually and some noise reduction used depending on what best served situation.
- Album has 5 segments and each segment needed a different anti-skid setting to avoid skipping.
Other Notes:
- Gene Watson was on tour to promote his 1987 album Honky Tonk Crazy and the title track single putting this concert in 1987.
- This project was one of the hardest I have worked so far. It was actually 2 weeks worth of work with about 5 hours a day spent on it. The record was covered in small scratches causing quite a bit of noise that needed editing. A screen grab of a half minute of the wave, showing the pops and clicks is included with the file set.
- This record is over 40 years old. When buying old, used vinyl you never know how the last owner treated it. This one was abused so there may be some noises that were left due to there being a worse problem afterwards or may have been missed during the editing process.
