A great sounding recording of Michigan Homeboy Del Shannon during his 1980's comeback. In the 1980s there were a few music stars who's careers ended in the 1970s or earlier made come backs. Chubby Checker, Mitch Ryder, Tina Turner, John Fogerty and Gary "US" Bonds to name a few. I personally didn't know Del Shannon was included in that list until I found this recording. I downloaded it from The Traders Den maybe 4 days ago. What a show too! Del is in fine voice, the band plays great and the set list is top notch. The cover of The Beatles Classic "From Me To You" is worth the download alone!!!

To most Yes fans looking back at Tales From Topographic Oceans, the biggest disappointment wasn't the album, tour or Rick Wakeman's departure after the tour. It's that no soundboard or broadcast recordings exist from the tour. There are however 73 different bootleg releases of the tour. All audience recordings of differing quality from unlistenable to this great Mike Millard audience recording. In my humble opinion if you want one good recording from this tour this is the one to have. The sound is really good, Mike the Mic had a great position and with The JEMS Team's great work with the transfer you have an awesome listening experience!

Rosebud & I feel very lucky that we were able to see Ray Charles in concert together. He played at Pine Knob Amphitheater with a pretty funny comedian as opening act. Ray was escorted out by the Raelettes to his piano to join in what I think was his old instrumental track "Booty Butt". Before playing his first song Ray said it was his birthday which my memory thinks he said his 70th. The man played and sang like you would expect the King Of Soul to. After his second song he says "They tell me we have plenty of seats available in the pavilion so any of you on the hill want to get a little closer management says you can come on down." The hill was pretty well sold and not a lot of people got up so Rosebud and I walked down the hill and got 12th row center seats for the best concert we would see that year.

This recording comes close to when Aynsley Dunbar leaves Journey. It's actually the start of the one by one loss of everyone, except for Neil Schon, that had anything to do with bringing Journey from No Name to Fame. Next to leave will be Gregg Rolie, then Ross Valory. The music would also go through changes as the members came and went. When Steve Perry came in the music went from a Progressive sounding Hard Rock to a more radio friendly sounding Album Oriented Rock or Arena Rock. This in turn was the reason for Aynsley Dunbar's departure. When Gregg Rolie left and Jonathan Cain came in, the music evolved to a synthesizer driven Pop Rock. When Ross Valory left the band become a full on Adult Contemporary Ballad band. Unfortunately the band has slipped into the same swampy farce as the 1980s Hair Metal scene. With members and former members engaging in law suits over the bands name, Steve Perry released a solo album  and claims he never felt like a real member of the band and refused to take part in their Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame performance...Now that's said, screw it and let's just enjoy some great music....

This high energy show from David Johanson is just what the Doctor Ordered to help get you over the hump this Wednesday. It's a good sounding recording, the band and crowd seem to be having a great time..all in all there is not a lot of shows from David Johanson's solo career so you should definitely add this to your collection.

Early broadcast from Judas Priest on their Stained Class tour. A lot of Judas Priest fans prefer the recordings with Les Binks on drums. Each time Judas Priest changed drummers there was a change to the music as well. When Les Binks joined The Priest actually took a heavier turn. Heavier and faster, but when Dave Holland joined Priest took a more commercial turn. The songs seemed to be written for a more radio friendly sound. When Dave Holland was replaced with Scott Travis Judas Priest returned to a Heavier sound. Not sure if these were calculated moves or just what happens when a band changes one ingredient in the mix.

This recording does show it's age or maybe more correctly it's generation. I would love to get a hold of a 1st Gen copy or the master because this is an awesome early performance from Priest. It is an enjoyable listen, but has a few little flaws...

Today one of my favorite songs brought tears to my eyes. We have lost one of the greatest songwriters in the world, Kris Kristofferson. Ray Price, Waylon Jennings, Bobby Bare, Johnny Cash, Sami Smith (she had a hit with "Help Me Make It Through The Night"), Janis Joplin, Joe Simon, Patty Page, Jerry Lee Lewis, Rod Stewart, and Elvis Presley just to drop a few of the names of singers who have recorded and had hits with Kristofferson's songs. He wrote one of my favorite Country songs ever. The the typical Country Music Story which nobody ever wrote better, "Sunday Mornin' Coming Down". I mean Ray Stevens released the 1st version of that song in 1969. Ray Stevens the guy best known for "The Streak" recorded that song. So did Johnny Cash, a great songwriter himself who needed no help writing a hit, recorded a Number 1 Hit Single with "Sunday Mornin' Coming Down". When a songwriter records one of your songs, you know that you did something right. Kris Kristofferson reached a kind of immortality. His songs will carry his name into an infinite future....Rest In Peace Kris Kristofferson.

OK, Rosebud had to work today, the leaves are changing color in my backyard, and it's raining. I needed something bright on this grey morning. So I picked this Pat Metheny Group show to start my Sunday Morning Jazz time. The combination of Pat's guitar tone and the keyboard sound of Lyle Mays do paint a bright picture in the mind. For Me the music they create always has a calming uplifting effect like lying on a grassy knoll in the sunshine on a warm summer morning. A light breeze makes the leaves dance, birds sing and you have not a care in the world....Enjoy Your Sunday My Friends!!!!
