The Bad Plus is quite simply a great Jazz Ensemble. They have worked with quite a few of the big names in Jazz. They have been regulars on The New JDP since we started posting Jazz shows. This is yet another quality recording of one of their own shows. I know I say it a lot but this show is a great listen and addition to your Jazz Collections. They really are one of my favorite bands.

The Bad Plus & Joshua Redman have collaborated quite offten, always to awe inspiring affect. This 50 minute set written completely by bassist Reid Anderson is no different. The Detroit International Jazz Festival is among the largest free Jazz Festivals in the United States. I first attended the festival in 1981 when I was in high school. I was involved in the local music scene in our school, a few musician friends of and I road the bus downtown to see music that would just blow our minds. All of us were into Punk Rock & Heavy Metal having lost interest in the Progressive Rock & Arena Rock bands of the day. The performances that we saw that day re-opened our eyes to a type of musicianship that would influence our future paths in music. I have attended the festival several times since, as a matter of fact Rosebud and I plan on attending the festival this year. I downloaded this great show from an awesome site called The Live Jazz Lounge. A fantastic source for unreleased live Jazz shows all are posted in lossy formats some in MP3 some in MP4.
