Recording Notes:
- There is a locked groove test tone on Side A for the DJ to set levels before broadcasting the show, it has not been encoded.
- There are two locked groove show promo beds with voice overs at the end of Side C. One with Dwight Twilley music and one with Los Lobos music. They have been encoded.
- This King Biscuit Flower Hour features the first Los Lobos National Radio Broadcast in The U.S.A.
Known Faults:
- Labels printed with Los Lobos and Romeo Void, 2 labels have Romeo Void scratched out with marker and Dwight Twilley written in.
- Some small marks on the vinyl which make a noticeable thump noise, dealt with in editing
Editing Notes:
- A Zerostat Positive Ion gun was used on LPs prior to playback.
- A carbon fiber record brush, then a microfiber disc cleaner was used on the records prior to playback.
- Records hand cleaned with Record Research Lab Super Record Wash before playback.
- LP cleaned with the HumminGuru Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning System using distilled water prior to playback.
- Raw transfer: EQ off, treble and bass levels set at +/- zero for most accurate sound of LP.
- Turntable & tone arm balanced: Needle Tracking & Azimuth set: Needle Pressure & Antiskid digitaly set:
- Computer Soundcard stereo field maximized.
- Goldwave set to record while filtering any DC Offset.
- Recording and all editing done in 24bit/96khz.
- Preservation being key the show is encoded complete with commercials and voiceovers.
- Declicked manually and some noise reduction used depending on what best served the situation.
- Raised the volume of the commercials to match that of the music and voice overs.
- A rumble filter with an initial cut off of 50khz and a static steepness of 2 was used to lessen the needle noise on the commercials due to having to raise the volume to match that of the music and voice overs.
Other Notes:
- Something about the music and vocals on "Will The Wolf Survive" always gives me the same vibe as listening to The Outlaws, not in a bad rip off way just that laid back smooth and syrupy delivery.
- I remember when Will The Wolf Survive was released it was a great time in my life. I had a 1972 Chevy Chevelle Malibu, a new Wife (now my ex), and a new band (Psychosis). I don't remember ever hearing Dwight Twilley on the radio, but then again I might have just ignored it if I did. They are a good band but most likely got lost in the noise plowing the same fields as Cheap Trick, Loverboy or any other 1980s band combining Power Pop, New Wave and Arena Rock.
