This great Pre-FM recording comes from Steve Winwood's tour to support Junction Seven his seventh solo album. The album didn't sell as well as previous solo efforts so after the touring was over Winwood took a break from releasing solo albums that didn't end till 2003 saw the release of About Time. This is a stunning performance that we are lucky enough to have preserved for our repeated listening pleasure. I'm not sure which radio program this recording comes from because the original uploader did not include that information.

Every Metal Head knows that without Black Sabbath we probably wouldn't be headbanging today. Ian Gillan of Deep Purple has said that until Black Sabbath, everyone thought being heavy was playing louder than traditional Rock bands. Black Sabbath combined aggression, occult imagery, and down tuned guitars with a live performance akin to being crushed under tectonic plates, to come up with a style completely opposite of the peace and love of the late 1960's. Tony Iommi's chunky riffs, although still anchored to blues and jazz, were alien to most Rock critics. This however did not deter fans as the Black Sabbath touring machine chewed up audiences around the globe. The album was a commercial success despite the critics, and Black Sabbath would go on to influence generations of musicians. This soundboard recording from the Technical Ecstasy tour includes a rare live recording of "All Moving Parts (Stand Still)" as well as fan favorites so Black Sabbath fans should not miss it.

Formed in 1982 in Pasadena California. The band quickly recorded a 5 song demo tape that caught the attention of Brian Slagel at the fledgling Metal Blade Records. Metal Blade included the track "Lesson Well Learned" on their Metal Massacre II release in 1982. Three of the remaining tracks were used for the 1983 self titled EP. These recordings caught the attention of Chrysalis Records who released the March Of The Saint full length in 1984. Armored Saint vocalist John Bush was actually a hot commodity in the Metal Underground as both Metallica and Anthrax tryed to lure John away from Armored Saint to join with them. Metallica also asked bassist Joey Vera to join them after the death of Cliff Burton. John Bush eventually joined Anthrax after Joey Belladonna was fired.

This recording catches the band at the start of the March Of The Saint Tour. The complete album is played as well as the "Lesson Well Learned" single.

This one might surprise some visitors to The New JDP, but we don't always listen to Heavy Metal here. The Little River Band were in their most commercially successful period when The BBC Rock Hour caught them in concert for this recording. Original vocalist Glenn Shorrock will be replaced at the end of this tour and would not return until the 1990's. This is a fine Pre-Fm recording that features the bands 3 big hits of the day "Reminiscing", "Cool Change" and "The Night Owls".

It's pretty apparent to frequent visitors to Just Dave's Place that Rosebud and I tend to favor the heavier side of Rock & Roll. We were both Metalheads before Heavy Metal was cool. So for the month of June we will be paying tribute to Heavy Metal. More specific we will be posting shows from the early days off Metal, the bands who were on the front lines battling to bring Heavy Metal to world wide acceptance as a viable musical genre. The first of these posts come from a very important player in the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Diamond Head. Diamond Head were a huge influence on Metallica & Megadeth and a host of other Power Metal/Thrash Metal innovators of the early 1980's. The bands first independent LP "Lightning To The Nations" is considered a classic by all Metal historians. Metallica have covered 5 of the 7 tracks included on the LP. Diamond Head were unable to obtain the commercial success of their NWOBHM peers and have faded into the underground to occasionally appear at festivals. This recording comes from the tour to promote their second MCA release Canterbury. The album had a more commercial feel than predecessors which made it not very popular with their core fans. Diamond Head were dropped by MCA after Canterbury.
