Nice sounding recording for Bill Evans' first showing on the blog. This is some great Piano Jazz. Bill Evans to some may seem a little like lounge Jazz at first. However Bill's subtleties on his phrasing are amazing. At first I had no idea that a commonality of his was leaving the root note to be determined by the listener. A lot of the time it is left out of the arrangement, only suggested. Plus he also sometimes works in strict 12 tone music, check out CD Two track five "T.T.T (Twelve Tone Tune) for some of that. I first learned of 12 tone composition from reading about Frank Zappa's 12 tone experiments, great stuff!

Now there is a long notes section on how this show was recorded and how it was remastered and reconstructed. I didn't post it all here but it is still included on the info text in the art & info folder. There was a bit of work done and the show does really have good sound. Bill Evans is a great pianist, this show is a compilation from a 9 day stint at Arènes et Jardins de Cimiez, in Nice France. Bill's Trio is joined by some great guests including Stan Getz and Lee Konitz. I bet this will make a great listen in the evening with a glass of wine and a bowl of some nice green stuff.

Camp Fortune is in Quebeco, Canada just about 15 minutes from Downtown Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (according to Wikipedia) so the show was called Live In Ottawa.
This is another awesome set from The Bill Evans Trio. You can not deny that during their day The Bill Evans Trio was one of the Best Live Jazz Units out there. Every performance I have heard is nothing short of awe inspiring. Piano Jazz at it's best....Enjoy!!

I have no info on this recording. I downloaded it from a site called hd24bit.com. The site is for downloading mostly copyrighted commercial releases. Sometimes a nice bootleg will pop up. They usually give no info on anything, sometimes there is a sample to listen to. The name of the bootleg company that released this recording is Remastered On Broadcasting, that doesn't necessarily mean the recording is remastered. I have a few from this company that definitely are not remastered versions.
What I can tell you about this show is the sound quality is very nice and the performance is what any fan of Bill Evans would expect, nothing less than stellar! I love the fact that he seems to always play my favorite piece by him "Twelve Tone Tune (T.T.T.)". I first learned of 12 Tone composition through the work of Frank Zappa. Late in his career Frank Zappa did a lot of 12 Tone compositions on his Synclavier. He talked about it in an interview, explaining the 12 tone composition process in great detail. A simple explanation is a 12 tone composition is not in any key, all 12 notes of the chromatic scale are used in the composition and all are equally emphasized. That's not exactly it but will suffice for now.
Fans of Piano Jazz should add this to their collections, you will not be disappointed. As for Bill Evans fans, You already know if you do not have this show, it's a must have!!

It's Sunday Morning and my coffee is ready. This nice show from the Bill Evans Trio is just what the morning needs....I downloaded this great show from our old friends at BigO what they said about the show is below...
What BigO Said:
Bill Evans’s use of impressionist harmony, inventive interpretation of traditional jazz repertoire, block chords, and trademark rhythmically independent, “singing” melodic lines continue to influence jazz pianists today. In 1963, Evans recorded Conversations with Myself, a solo album using the unconventional technique of overdubbing over himself. He passed away in 1980. He was 51.

JustDave's Ramble:
If You're in the mood for some Jazz this Sunday Morning and it's piano time, Bill Evans is the man for you. This great double set from Bill Evans on a 1969 world tour. Two stops captured in soundboard quality. This one was my on the back porch drinking coffee choice this morning. I previewed the 2 Coltrane shows while cooking dinner last night. I am not going to ramble on (wow) because we know Bill Evans is the man when it's time to sit down with a cup of coffee and enjoy the morning!
What BigO Printed:
Thanks to pucholoco for sharing the Pescara Festival tracks on the net.
On July 18, 1969, Evans took his trio with Eddie Gomez and Marty Morell to Italy in order to inaugurate the Pescara festival located on the Adriatic coast. The group was recorded live on 11 tracks that were supposed to be broadcast for radio only. But much to the chagrin of Evans and his manager, the concert was released as limited edition on Japanese bootleg. This Lone Hill Jazz release contains Bill Evans’ Peccary Festival performance, marking the first time all of these songs are found on one disc.
The Bill Evans Trio was recorded in 1969 for broadcast at the debut of the Pescara Jazz Festival in Italy, though the pianist was outraged when the music was bootlegged by a Japanese label a short time later, followed by others, often with the songs mislabeled. In any case, Evans, along with his longest working trio, bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Marty Morell, are in top form during this hour-long set. Evans shines throughout the date, though his rhythm section plays far more than just a timekeeping role, interacting with him. Gomez’s fluid solos are highlights of Evans’ arrangement of the lovely ballad “Emily.”
Whether utilizing brushes or sticks, Morell’s drumming is first-rate, especially in the explosive rendition of Miles Davis’ modal masterpiece “Nardis.” The leader’s demanding “Very Early” is a delight, though the introduction is inexplicably clipped from his rendition of “Waltz for Debby,” a track also plagued with what sounds like noise from a monitor on-stage. One other amateurish flaw is that Evans is listed as the composer of Denny Zeitlin’s “Quiet Now.”
Meanwhile, Japanese music fan Toshio Fukuhara seems a bit on the harsh side with this comment at amazon.com:
It started out okay (maybe 3.5 stars), only to find the sound quality deteriorates gradually (ends with 1 star). The last and Bill’s best tune Waltz for Debby is almost inaudible and doesn’t even start from the very beginning. [Ed: Slight hiss/tape wear maybe but not inaudible.] I also noticed that, as if to escape from getting caught, the microphone was moving toward the end of this CD, and the sound gets “shaded.” This may suggest that this was an armature bootleg live recording. Unless you are a collector or Bill Evans freak, you’d be better off avoiding this CD, simply because it’s not worth the money. There are much better recordings of similar tunes and periods available, such as Quiet Now and Serenity from Charly Records.
