- Thank you to My fellow members of The Collective Of Live Music for help and inspiration.
- This one is dedicated to my late Grandmother for making me a fan of Don Williams and The Ink Spots.
Known Faults:
- Some small scratches on vinyl which make pop sounds but no skips.
- Westwood One packs over 50 minutes of music and commercials on 2 sides of vinyl making for groove crowding.
- Groove crowding can cause needle damge to the vinyl causing more pops, snaps & needle noise or rumble.
- There are a few spots on the album where a rumble noise gets pretty strong. This was on the LP and not due to needle pressure or anti-skid being too high as my needle is set at 1.2 and anti-skid is at 1.0.
Recording Notes:
- There was no show promo on this album.
- Recording is presented as both Westwood One Live From Gilley's & Westwood One Presents.
- Westwood One Presents is the name Westwood One started using after they started recording Country shows at locations other than Gilley's Bar in Texas.
- The Record labels and runout grooves have the show number as LG-87-32, LG being Live From Gilley's .
- The cue sheet says Westwood One Presents Show #87-32
- Jim Duncan calls the show Westwood One Presents during his show wrap up, not Live From Gilley's
- There is a listing for a show called Live From Gilley's #87-01 for broadcast on December 29, 1986 that has a duplicate set list.
- There is a song called "We've Got A Good Fire Goin'" in the set that is on Don Williams' 1986 album New Moves. But artists do play unreleased material live to get audience reactions and "Road Test" a song.
- I found a newspaper ad for Don Williams' appearance at Westbury Music Fair in 1985 but not for 1986.
Editing Notes:
- A Zerostat Positive Ion gun was used on LP prior to playback.
- A carbon fiber record brush, then a microfiber disc cleaner was used on the record prior to playback.
- Records hand cleaned with Record Research Lab Super Record Wash before playback.
- LP cleaned with the HumminGuru Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning System prior to playback.
- Raw transfer: EQ off, treble and bass levels set at +/- zero for most accurate sound of LP.
- Turntable balanced: Needle Tracking, Azimuth Set: Needle Pressure Digitally Dialed In:
- Soundcard stereo field maximized
- Goldwave always set to record while filtering any offset.
- Recording and all editing done in 24bit/96khz.
- Preservation being key the show is encoded complete with commercials and voiceovers.
- Declicked manually and some noise reduction used depending on what best served situation.
- A high pass filter with an initial cut off of 50hz and static steepness of 2 was used to ease rumble caused by the tight grooves on the album.
Other Notes:
- There are only 2 songs played at this concert that were not aired: "Say It Again" & "You're My Best Friend".
- "Say It Again" was played between "'Til The Rivers Run Dry" & "I Believe In You".
- "You're My Best Friend" was played between "Amanda" & "Good Ole Boys Like Me".
- "Some Broken Hearts Never Mend" was covered by Telly Savalas in 1981. It was #1 on the Swiss charts and #2 in Australia and #4 in The Netherlands. Telly Savalas is most notable in The USA for being an actor who portrayed the lollipop eating police detective Kojak of the TV show with the same name. His famous catch phrase being "Who's lookin' at you baby?"
