This great show from a really awesome band is for our longtime friend shmoopatties. He recently asked me if I had heard of them and I hadn't. He asked if I could use my snooping out powers to try and find a couple gigs that he knew about. This was one of them, I found it on the Traders Den torrent tracker posted by Innerear. There is a remastered version floating around the internet which I do not have a copy of yet, but I will.

You may not know the band leader Stomu Yamashta but you may know his drummer Michael Shrieve of Santana fame. The band was founded by Stomu Yamashta along with, Al DiMeola, Steve Winwood, and Michael Shrieve when each of the musicians were in between musical projects. They released a studio album and played some gigs, I'm not sure if Al DiMeola or Steve Winwood ever appeared on stage with the band or not but Michael Shrieve was there all the way.

Fans of such Progressive bands like National Health, or Jazz Fusion bands would most likely become fans of Stomu Yamashta's Go. The rich soulful vocals and fantastic instrumentation made an instant fan of this old Headbanger!

Judas Priest fans will love this show! Rob Halford is in fine voice and there are songs in the set that will be dropped in later years. The almost 11 minute "Genocide" is worth the download time alone. This tour was the beginning of Judas Priest aiming for a more radio friendly style hoping to really break in the United States yet keeping the core "sound" they had developed over the previous years. At this point in time Judas Priest had yet to headline most US cities it played. The ones they did were in smaller theaters than the arenas they served as opening act in. They had not even played Detroit and wouldn't until headlining their Screaming For Vengeance Tour. Their headlining gig at Cobo Hall Arena even including Iron Maiden as opening act, on tour for Number Of The Beast. It was mind blowing!!

That's right! Almost 5 hours of classic Frank Zappa performances. This box set even includes the Saturday Night Live performances from 1976 and 1978! I'll never forget the sketch about Frank meeting a bunch of hippy fans. Someone introduced John Belushi's character to Frank saying something like "We call him Window Pane because he did 100s of hits of Window Pane Acid listening to Freak Out! To reach the state you were in recording it" to which Frank says "I don't do drugs". At the time I didn't believe it. I later read one of the musicians that worked with him said the band would hide their drug use because Frank didn't like his band doing drugs. He remembered a conversation with Frank that went something like Frank "Why do you do drugs anyway?" Musician "Because it magnifies my personality" Frank "Yeah but what if you're an asshole?"

My original young teenage fandom of Frank Zappa came from the songs with the funny lyrics like "Don't Eat The Yellow Snow", "Broken Hearts Are For Assholes", and "Montana". As I grew more mature I grew to like his more serious musical pieces which were more like Jazz Fusion. When I was 16 my favorite Zappa 8-track tape in my car was Sleep Dirt. I then moved to his Classical music and then really started to enjoy the more weird stuff like Lumpy Gravy. Now in my over 60s I have not met a Frank Zappa album I do not like. I have more Frank Zappa CDs and Bootlegs than I do Black Sabbath, Deep Purple or any other band I love. Now that is actually saying a lot!!

A nice sounding show from what I'm told is a digital rebroadcast of this classic Eric Clapton Concert. With his friends Elton John & Mark Knopfler in tow Clapton lays down some great Blues Rock for a more than appreciative Tokyo crowd. I love that both Mark and Elton get to showcase some of their material as well. I actually read a review in which someone said that Sonic Boom ruined a perfectly good Eric Clapton boot with too much Dire Straits and Elton John material. Hey it's a great document of a moment in time...a snap shot!
