This is such an amazing show! This has to be one of the best Jazz shows I have shared in a while. Maybe not as adventurous as the last Herbie Hancock show I shared. It is however just as clean sounding and an awe inspiring performance. I became a fan of Brad Mehldah after hearing him play a solo piano rendition of Nick Drake's "River Man" right after playing an awesome version of the Lennon/McCartney penned "Martha My Dear". This is a re-post and upgrade to this post here which was posted in MP3 320kbps. This one also has slightly different information. The original uploader said this recording was from a date in New York City, New York at an undisclosed location. The info on the CD says it was recorded Live In The U.S.A. '94 so that is the info I am going to use for this upgraded re-post. The CD is also a promo only CD sent to radio stations to promote Joshua Redman. It is a Pre-FM Recording actually, so there you go.

Joshua Redman is the son of Jazz Saxophone Legend Dewey Redman. Dewey Redman had played with them all: Keith Jarrett, Charlie Haden, Don Cherry, Ornette Coleman, Paul Motian and Flautist Jane Bunnett to name a few. There was a performance from a band called Fathers And Sons which not only had saxophonists Dewey & Joshua Redman but the father son duo Von & Chico Freeman. That band also had Brad Mehldau piano, and Christian McBride on bass, therefore a bigger connection to these 2 posts. The band had been rounded out by Gregory Hutchinson on drums. This is not a rare Master Tape but it is some what new to trading circles since it was just recorded this summer. Someone commented calling it "The Mount Rushmore Of Jazz" plays live and that it was "4 Musicians Of The Apocalypse"...I will say that this is a great sounding capture of "an awesome Quartet of top notch musicians inspiring each other to heights even they didn't now they could attain". I love this one on headphones. This Sunday Morning Jazz Time it was on the stereo while I looked out my back window at all the fall color in the trees....

This is an absolute must have Jazz Legends Dewey Redman and Von Freeman jamming with their sons Joshua Redman and Chico Freeman. All 4 are extraordinary tenor sax players. All 4 have a very distinct style of playing. All 4 had never shared the stage before. There is some fabulous performances here that should not be missed. The original up-loader made this audio a single file, I did not want to re-encode the show, so I left it as one file.
