My fellow Herbie Hancock Fans you are going to love this! After the great acoustic piano shows from Herbie we have this awesome electric and acoustic show for you. We even get a the Headhunters' Classic "Cantaloupe Island". Helping out The Man With The Hands are the Legendary Vinnie Colaiuta and Lionel Loueke working their magic on percussion and guitar respectively. Rounding out the Quintet are the very talented multi-instrumentalist Terrace Martin and bassist James Genus. 5 songs short but over an hour long, this set that starting off with a nearly 26 minute "Overture" is guaranteed to satisfy!

This is a partial show; the Al Di Meola concert segment it not included.

Jazz pianists played 23 cities across America, with several dates being professionally recorded.

Both record labels issued a live album, Columbia issued Herbie Hancock & Chick Corea – An Evening With Herbie Hancock & Chick Corea In Concert 1978, while Polydor released CoreaHancock.  Tracks on both LPs are attributed to the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles, and the Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, MI, so some of the King Biscuit tracks may be officially released.

We should cross-reference this against the official releases but I have not had the time to do so yet.

MOSHPIT.com has two tracks attributed to the Masonic on "Mar 8, 1978."

I see NO EVIDENCE they played the Masonic on that date.  There are print ads for a concert on Thursday, February 2nd, 1978.  They were originally scheduled for a single 7:30 show, but a second 10:30 show was added.

Thomas Albright, the critic for the San Francisco Chronicle, wrote a harsh review, calling their solos "flawless gossamers of relentlessly pretty and occasionally witty effects - were close kin to the meandering improvisations of the cocktail lounge."

In contrast, the Chronicle's general pop cultural critic-at-large John L. Wasserman found the 40 minutes he watched (before he wandered over to the Fairmont to catch Peggy Lee (and have a drink, knowing Wasserman, a drink was almost certainly involved...) well, he found Corea and Hancock "no less than sensational" and "an experience I'll not soon forget."

Reactions to Mr. Albright's review were strong enough that he wrote a follow-up defense of his criticism a week later.

I have a big spot in my musical heart for anything Herbie Hancock plays. The Mwandishi era is one of my favorite periods in Herbie's career tied with The Headhunters era. At the time each were ground breaking Jazz bands.

As far as the music and performance I don't have to sell this to any Jazz Fan. What I will sell to you is the fact this show sounds 100% better than how originally posted. I have both versions and this is definitely a sonic upgrade.

Two Piano Jazz Legends on the same stage inspiring each other to such heights of performance that you just have to sit and take notice. One of my favorite set of bootlegs in my collection is the soundboards from Billy Joel & Sir Elton John's Head To Head Tour. This performance, this pairing of players equals and I personally would dare to say tops those recordings. It really comes through, the fun, friendship, and mutual musical respect, in this show. This show started my Sunday Morning Jazz wake up. I think it will be a great show for yours...

Wow! Can you believe it's time for Sunday Morning Jazz already. I don't know about you but I have had a busy week and I am ready to listen to some Jazz, sip my coffee, and watch the wind dance through the trees in my backyard.

What a show, what a recording the Legendary Mike Millard recorded the Legendary Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock! I really shouldn't have to say anything more but I am going to. This recording can be called soundboard quality! It is one of Mike MIllard's best recordings by far. That is saying a lot, but since it was such a laid back atmosphere Mike Millard was able to make a great audio capture. The audience never steps on the sound of the performance at all. The soundboard man had an awesome mix, everything presented on the stage is clearly heard. The performance is everything you would expect from two of the best keyboardists in Jazz...Enjoy the show my friends!

I know he's on 3 of my favorite Frank Zappa albums, Joe's Garage, Shut Up 'n Play Your Guitar, and Guitar.

What can I say about The Legendary Herbie Hancock that I haven't said already. For that matter the same goes for Wayne Shorter and Dave Holland. So I am going to concentrate my comments on the awe inspiring performance on the drums by Brian Blade. The music on this recording comes from a very experimental time in Herbie Hancock's career. The Mwandishi period was filled with vast improvisations on a theme. Three songs stretched into 2 hours of music that fans of Experimental Jazz, Progressive Rock (like King Crimson), Post Punk (like Swans) will love. The Mwandishi band released 3 LP's before Herbie Hancock decided to take a more Funk inspired turn with Headhunters.
