Something really cool here! If you love The Roaches you will love Winterbloom. These four ladies have such beautiful voices and a great sence of humour which adds up to a fun Christmas concert in an intimate setting. It sounds like a small hall giving you the feel of a cozy ski weekend sing-a-long for about 100. This comes from my BigO archive. I downloaded a lot of music from that site in it's day. The BigO notes about this show are included for you below.

BigO Original Notes:
Think The Roches and The Refugees. Again, something soothing for the holiday season.

Winter is a time for gathering – and sometimes it’s even more fun to gather with friends than family! It’s in this spirit that a new holiday tradition has emerged – a tradition of friendship and music. For a third consecutive year [2012] songwriters Antje Duvekot, Anne Heaton, Meg Hutchinson and Natalia Zukerman will tour as “Winterbloom”.

From winterbloom.com:

In September 2008, Cambridge MA’s Club Passim manager Matt Smith booked the artists to perform in-the-round together at their popular “Cutting Edge of the Campfire Festival.” A rare occasion, since by that time all were already sell-out headliners at the venue individually. In that performance, the four women had so much fun, and audience response was so positive, they immediately booked three more shows together for that December.

In 2009, Duvekot, Heaton, Hutchinson and Zukerman reunited to create, write, arrange, record and perform together officially – and thus “Winterbloom” was born. They released a holiday EP entitled “Winterbloom: Traditions Rearranged” in 2009.

Thanks to mdshrk1 for recording the show and sharing the tracks at The Traders’ Den.

Thanks also to Asia Kepka (group photo) and Adam Jason (gig photo), pictures posted at winterbloom.com.

Well I've done some reposts for Christmas, here is something new (well it's being re-gifted let's say) off the hard drive. I didn't know I had this. I was just cleaning out a very full (always full) download folder and it was there. I though "Hey Merry Bruce-mas!". It's a fun show with some great guests, I think you all will enjoy it

This one is a classic, it's been in trading circles for a while, if you don't have a copy of it yet you should. This is a great performance from a band it seems was tailor made for Holiday music. Chicago's Christmas album and this show both get heavy rotation for the Holidays at Just Dave's Place every year and for me has become as big a part of Christmas as Elvis, Bing Crosby and egg nog (got to have egg nog!).

More Christmas Music for your shopping pleasure. The Boston Pops Holiday Pops show was started by none other than Arthur Fiedler who conducted The Pops from 1930-1979. Arthur Fielder was responsible for The Pops playing Popular Music alongside Classical Music. The Pops sold more records than any other orchestra in the world under Fiedler's direction. When the Disco craze hit, The Pops released the Disco album Saturday Night Fiedler, which was Fiedler's last album with The Pops. The Boston Pops Holiday Concerts are still a tradition in Boston.

I like listening to Celtic Folk Music sometimes when I am sipping wine after dinner. It has a direct relationship to American Bluegrass Music. The rhythms, the tone, the timbre are all pretty much the same. It's also the music of my heritage, being Scots-Irish. My family came to America during the Gold Rush. They were miners and a corporation paid them to come here and teach them how to mine gold (yep that stuff actually happened). They were paid with land in Appalachia. The Appalachian Mountains is the cradle of American Country Music, the product of Bluegrass, Blues and Gospel/Spirituals.

This is an upgrade to an earlier Carla Bley Christmas show. The previous show was posted in MP3 224kbps, this one is in Flac and includes 3 bonus tracks from a 2008 performance. If you haven't heard Carla's Christmas Carols then you really should download this show. Carla makes great use of the Brass section, even using tuba, French horn and flugelhorn to achieve a nice range of instrumental voices. This show is in as heavy of a Holiday Playlist rotation as Trans-Siberian Orchestra (that's huge, TSO is big with my family!). Rosebud even asks for it to be played, so you know it's not an Avant-Garde Jazz event. It's easily digestible by even the slightest of Jazz fans.

This is a great show featuring some awesome performances. Joe Lynn Turner of Rainbow, Deep Purple fame sings some Old School Soul songs from Otis Reading and Sam & Dave. Ellen Folly turns in a great performance of some Rock & Roll Classics. Gary "US" Bonds gives a show stopping performance. Buster Poindexter, Marshall Crenshaw, and Gene Cornish of The Young Rascals all give top notch performances. The show ends with Broadways Longest Running "Annie" Allison Smith performing a song she wrote and released to benefit the Search for Missing Children Fund, the charity this show is a benefit for. Then the whole cast comes back for a jam on Christmas songs. Awesome stuff and over 3 hours of music!
