Now for my next installment of my Salute To Progressive Rock Bands we have If. If is a British Progressive Rock/Jazz Rock band that, like Chicago and Blood Sweat & Tears merged Prog-Rock, Rock, Blues and Big Jazz horns. If was though a little more Progressive Rock than the a fore mentioned bands. The first song "Your City Is Falling" is the perfect track to set the scene for the rest of the show. The song starts with its chorus that sounds like something The Mothers Of Invention would come up with around 200 Motels era. It then morphs to a smooth Jazz that soon is taken over by a Hammond organ riff like Greg Allman. Vocalist J.W. Hodkinson has a bit of a unique way of blending a tone like Pete Townshend with the power of Roger Daltry, the drama of Greg Lake's delivery, sometimes with a Jack Bruce phrasing. Guitars that can sound like Pat Metheny's clean tone to fuzzed out wah-wah that would make the most diehard of the Fillmore freak go wow man. They really are hard to explain to the uninitiated, my advice is to download this CD if you love trying different. If you are a fan of Focus, Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Terry Kath era Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears, throw them in a blender and your starting to understand.

Cliff Davies went on to make Ted Nugent's solo career a success. Dennis Elliot went on to play in Foreigner. Dave Greenslade would go on to work with Coloseum, Greenslade & as a solo artist. John Mealing played sessions for Mick Ronsoon, Leo Sayer, & John Entwistle ultimately joining The Strawbs. J.W. Hodkinson formed Rogue. Dick Morrissey went on to pay sessions with more names to count than we have space. Dave Quincy formed Zzebra. Dave Wintour went on to session work, including the bass on the Rocky Horror Picture Show track "Dammit Janet".

- LP cleaned with the HumminGuru Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning System prior to playback.
- A Zerostat Positive Ion gun was used on LP prior to playback.
- The Vocopro CDR-1000PRO processes at 24bit/44,1khz then records in 16bit/44,1.
- Vocopro CDR-1000PRO Waves can confuse Traders Little Helper so spectral of a wave is included.
- Recorder can be "tempermental" with CD-rs so 1 side recorded per CD-r to reduce bad discs.
- EAC Log given for each CD-r ripped.
- Raw transfer: EQ off, treble and bass levels set at +/- zero for most accurate sound of LP.
- No noise reduction used.
- Manually declicked in Goldwave.

Other Notes:
- This show was also broadcast as #89-07, #89-25 & #92-41. #89-07 and #89-25 on 3-LPs; #92-41 on 1-CD; #89-07 and #89-25 both had one additional track, "That Was Yesterday", that was not on the CD version. The CD version had a 1990s updated mix and master. (Thank you Draftervoi for the research)
- The Nipon Budokan Arena started life as a Judo Arena for the 1964 Summer Olympic Games. It also hosted karate and professional wrestling competitions. Budokan Arena hosted it's first Rock Concert in 1966 when The Beatles played a series of concerts there. Bob Dylan, Cheap Trick, Ian Gillan and Eric Clapton helped make the arena famous in the United States, and other western markets, by releasing Live At Budokan albums. The building was renovated in 2020 and is still in use.

My friend has been collecting FM recordings on Reel to Reel for years. Recently he came by with his tape deck so I could digitize his collection for him. So I retained copies of the ones I wanted as my fee for the work. He said I could share them as long as I give him credit for the tapes. For these distributions he has chosen the name Danibus. The cassette used to transfer to Reel was of unknown generation. The reel is of 2nd generation. The reel was noted as a WLIR broadcast recording.

Drummer Cliff Davies is the same drummer who played with Ted Nugent during the best period of his solo career. The original Ted Nugent Band, as it was to be called up to the point the Ted Nugent album was released. Ted Nugent, Free For All, Cat Scratch Fever and Double Live Gonzo. After that of course the line up splintered.

If also had other notable members including Dennis Elliott who would go on to play in Foreigner, Dave Greenslade of Coliseseum and Greenslade, and Geoff Whitehorn who played with Procal Harum.
