- As always a Big Thank You to my fellow members of The Collective Of Live Music for all the help and inspiration.
Known Faults:
- Westwood One packs over 50 minutes of music and commercials on one Budweiser Concert Hour LP.
- That makes for tighter grooves, making it harder to fight needle damage noise.
- Cue sheet states 2 show promos were at the end of Side 2 Segment 4. No show promos are included on the album. I have done a few of these shows and have yet to see one that includes a show promo.
Recording Notes:
- There are 2 small scratches on the record that when hit caused a repeated deep thump noise. It was noticable in audience portions of the recording. I tried to lessen the noise with a bump filter of 50hz.
- This is the first time that a Budweiser Concert Hour has Celebrity Westwood One Network IDs. Both Soul Legends Bill Withers & Jeffery Osbourne recorded an ID for this show.
Editing Notes:
- A Zerostat Positive Ion gun was used on LP prior to playback.
- A carbon fiber record brush, then a felt disc cleaner was used on the record prior to playback.
- Records hand cleaned with Record Research Lab Super Record Wash before playback.
- LP cleaned with the HumminGuru Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning System prior to playback.
- Raw transfer: EQ off, treble and bass levels set at +/- zero for most accurate sound of LP.
- Turntable balanced: Needle Tracking, Azimuth, Pressure & Antiskid Dialed In: Soundcard stereo field maximized: Goldwave always set to record while filtering any offset.
- Recording and all editing done in 24bit/96khz.
- Preservation being key the show is encoded complete with commercials and voiceovers.
- Both manually de-clicked and some Pop Fix used depending on what got the best result.
Other Notes:
- Marcus Hutson died May 23, 2000 from prostate cancer, his position was never filled with anyone else. To this day The Whispers perform with one less member in the line up.
- Nicholas Caldwell died January 5, 2016 from complications due to congestive heart failure, he was 71.
- Walter Scott died June 26, 2025 from complications due to cancer, he was 81.
- The Whispers sang the United States National Anthem at game 2 of the 1989 Baseball World Series.
- The only Original Member of The Whispers in the group now is Wallace "Scotty" Scott, who sang lead on quite a few of the groups hits.
- There is another Budweiser Concert Hour featuring The Whispers with the show number of BC-85-05. I am unsure if BC-85-05 and BC-86-05 are the same concert or not.
