Paul Di'Anno died October 21, 2024 after a long bought with many illnesses, he was 66.
Clive Burr died March 12, 2013 from complications of multiple sclerosis, he was 56.

It's hard to explain to Modern Day Metalheads what it was like to live in the 1980s Metal Heyday. Records at that time were harder to find, especially the really good stuff. You couldn't walk into K-mart or Sears and buy Motörhead or Venom records. You had to go to the Record stores. I actually had to mail order my first Motörhead, Venom & Iron Maiden vinyls. I remember when I was in high school whenever you were invited to a party they said bring some of your records with you to everybody, always. I walked into one with my brand new copy of Iron Maiden Killers (the American version) the guys in the basement treated me like a king. We all stood around the stereo smoking weed & drinking warm keg beer listening to Maiden over and over. The girls sat in the corner talking about us.

I love Iron Maiden, I have all their albums (Paul & Bruce's solo stuff too!). I have seen Maiden many times with Bruce and I even saw them with Blaze Bailey. My Heavy Metal Heat bleeds Di'Anno era Maiden. Hearing Killers for the first time for me was a watershed moment. Paul Di'Anno and Iron Maiden made me the Metalhead that I will be til the last curtain....

Like I said I have been on a New Wave Of British Heavy Metal kick lately and Iron Maiden is one of the most successful from that time period. This is a great sounding recording made from some of the radio broadcasts and soundboard recordings from the 1980's. So basically it's like another Live After Death but more locations and dates used. Meaning A Great Live Album Of That Era! Oh and yes I know it's a stolen title from an Alice Cooper song...it's a bootleg, rules don't really apply, and I didn't make it.

Although Killers is my all time favorite Iron Maiden album (Di'Anno's vocals on "Twilight Zone" are the best he ever recorded in my humble opinion). When it comes to the Bruce Dickinson era it's Number Of The Beast. It's also the first time I seen them live. The live shows still featured songs from the Paul Di'Anno era, and Bruce sung his ass off. Iron Maiden has always been a hell of a live band.

Roots Of Heavy Metal post # 8

Iron Maiden on the North American leg of the Killer World Tour. Lead singer Paul Di'Anno would be replaced at the end of this tour. Bruce Dickinson would step in as replacement and play his first Iron Maiden show October 26, 1981, just four months later. For many (JD included) the Paul Di'Anno era holds a special spot in their hearts, due to the pure raw energy that was felt the first time we heard "Wrathchild" or the vocal power of Di'Anno on "Twilight Zone". Those first two Maiden albums along with the first few Motorhead and Venom LPs were what inspire a generation to amp up the speed and create Speed/Thrash Metal.

Our first Iron Maiden offering comes from the era fronted by Paul DiAnno. Paul fronted the band through it's formative years, recording the bands first 2 full length albums. Paul was fired from the band after the tour for the second release Killers. Dianno himself admits that his drug use and erratic behavior was just too much and he would not have been able to last much longer. Dianno was replaced by former Samson vocalist Bruce Dickinson for the follow up release "Number Of The Beast" and the Maiden machine began to roll over the world. Clive Burr was dismissed during the Beast On The Road World Tour for what Steve Haris called performances that were affected by off stage activities. Clive maintained he was unfairly fired. Clive passed away from complications due to multiple sclerosis at the age of 56. The treatments for his disease left Clive deep in debt. Iron Maiden had quite a few charity events to raise funds to assist in Clive's care.
