What do you get when you take Led Zeppelin add Elvis on vocals, and have them play reggae versions of their famous songs. Sounds a little crazy doesn't it. That's what you get with Dread Zeppelin. Throw in some Beavis & Butthead style humor and there you have it.
Dread Zeppelin were born out of the ashes of The Prime Movers a post punk band out of Sierra Madre CA. The band had some success with hit singles and a 1986 tour with the UK band Big Country. After the tour the band returned to America to find all there contacts at Island Records had been fired. The label refused to release any new material but also refused to release the band from it's contract essentially killing the bands prospects. Other labels were interested but the band couldn't sign with anyone else.
The core members then formed Dread Zeppelin and started releasing their own records on there own label. The independent releases sold well enough to get the band signed to IRS Records. This relationship added up to 2 albums before the band was dropped, and once again started releasing their own product. The band has gone through some line up changes, but has stayed together. They have released 16 studio albums, 5 live albums and 3 DVDs.
This show catches the band opening for Joan Jett & The Blackhearts. So roll one up, slam a couple brews and skank along my friends.
