JustDave's Notes:
- A Great Big Thank You to Sam Elliot's Mustache for sending me the show for encoding!
- As always a huge thank You to my fellow members of The Collective Of Live Music for help and inspiration.
- Thank you to Draftervoi who heads up The Collective's Research Department for the newspaper articles and the King Biscuit Ad Poster from Your private collection.

Recording Notes:
- Sam Elliot's Mustache sent this one to me on CD-r after recording it at home so I could compare this 2 part show with the Best Of The Biscuit version of the show.
- There is a locked groove test tone at the beginning of both Side As for radio stations to set balance and output levels before broadcast. It was not encoded.
- There are two locked groove show promos for both record sets as well and these were not encoded either
- This King Biscuit Flower Hour 2 Part Show was produced by Neil "Spyder" Geraldo.
- 2 shows were recorded and they took the best performances from the 2 shows to make up this 2 part broadcast.
- The songs that Part 1 and Part 2 have in common "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", "Heartbreaker" and "Hell Is For Children" are the same performances just repeated.
- These recordings have also been released as King Biscuit Flower Hour Best Of The Biscuit Show #409. Both parts are edited to make one regular length King Biscuit Flower Hour show.
- The Best Of The Biscuit show drops "Little Paradise", "We Live For Love", "Hell Is For Children", "It's A Tough Life", "Fire And Ice", and "In The Heat Of The Night".
- There are no different takes of songs on the Best Of The Biscuit either although the running order is different.

Editing Notes:
- Recording and editing done in 16bit/44,1khz.
- No 24bit/96khz edition of this show will be released due to it being recorded to CD-r at 16bit and upsampling to 24bit is just making a 16bit file bigger not a file with more depth.
- Exact Audio Copy was used to extract the audio from the CD-rs.
- Preservation being key the show is encoded complete with commercials and voiceovers.
- Manually declicked with just a little noise reduction used in parts because it better suited the situation.
- As with all King Biscuit shows I've edited so far, the commercials had a maked difference in volume to the music. Volume was adjusted to match the body of the show.
- A High Pass Rumble/Bump Filter with an initial cut off 40Hz was used on the commercials as the low volume they were mastered with causes needle noise.
- The beginning of Part 2's "Hell Is For Children" had a bad noise that could not be removed. The beginning of Part 1's "Hell Is For Children" was used in it's place.

Other Notes:
- During the show I heard Pat mention Austin but I did not hear her mention Dallas.
- It does not escape me that in the late '70s early '80s so many Rockers were using Reggae rhythms and guitar riffs. Examples being, New Wave: The Police: Punk Rock: The Clash: Hard Rock: Pat Benatar: Rock: Eric Clapton: Progressive Rock (Progressive Metal Godfathers): Rush. Disco and Funk were borrowing from it too. All to great success in the U.S.A.
- Saddly in the U.S.A. real Reggae like Bob Marley, Toots and The Maytals, and Peter Tosh, they were relegated to the high school stoners, college scenesters and hippies.

JustDave's Notes:
- Huge Thank You To Sam Elliot's Mustache for sending me his vinyl to encode!
- Thank you also to Draftervoi, Sam Elliot's Mustache and avnut for input and assistance!

Known Faults:
- During Bill Minkin's wrap up of the show there is a couple spots of distortion that could not be removed without making the noise worse.

Recording Notes:
- There is a locked groove test tone at the beginning of Side A for radio stations to set balance and output levels before broadcast. It was not encoded.
- There are two locked groove show promos at the end of Side C, one with a voice over, one without. They have been encoded.

Editing Notes:
- A Zerostat Positive Ion gun was used on LP prior to playback.
- A carbon fiber record brush, then a felt disc cleaner was used on the record prior to playback.
- Records hand cleaned with Record Research Lab Super Record Wash before playback.
- LP cleaned with the HumminGuru Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning System prior to playback.
- Raw transfer: EQ off, treble and bass levels set at +/- zero for most accurate sound of LP.
- Turntable balanced: Needle Tracking, Azimuth, Pressure & Antiskid Dialed In: Soundcard stereo field maximized: Goldwave always set to record while filtering any offset.
- Recording and all editing done in 24bit/96khz.
- Preservation being key the show is encoded complete with commercials and voiceovers.
- Declicked manually no Pop Fix Noise Reduction was necessary with this rip.

Other Notes:
- This was a fun project to work on. Pat Benatar and the band had a great couple shows to make up this recording. I've always loved Pat's choices of cover songs. On her first album there was 2 Smokey covers "In the Heat of the Night", and "If You Think You Know How to Love Me", John "Cougar" Melloncamp's "I Need A Lover", The Sweet's "No You Don't", Nick Gilder's "Rated X", Alan Parson's "Don't Let It Show" and Jenny Darren's "Heartbreaker". On Crimes Of Passion there was The Young Rascals' "You Better Run" and Kate Bush's "Wurthering Heights". On Precious Time she covered Paul Revere & The Raiders' "Just Like Me" and The Beatles' "Helter Skelter". Six of these covers are in this set, with "Helter Skelter" being chosen as the show closer.
- This show was released as Pat Benatar Greatest Hits Live.
- Pat Benatar has stopped playing "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" because of the gun violence in the United States. She says that she will not preach to her fans, that's not her place. She says as a citizen that she talks to U.S. Legislators about the situation. She however feels she can not sing the song when it personally makes her think of the violence in the world.

JustDave's Notes:
I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I then used Goldwave to re-edit some track marks, add a fade out at the end of the show. No EQ or Noise Reduction was used, and no remastering or remixing. I also double the volume to give it a little more punch. There is a TV hum which is most audible during the non music parts of the recording.

Pat & band are in great form for this show. The band actually only rehearsed one encore but pulled off an awesome rendition of their Paul Revere & the Raiders cover "Just Like Me" from Pat's 1981 album "Precious Time". This show marks the sound turn for Pat Benatar's music. She move to a more MTV Top 40ish direction that I didn't follow her into. She did however, despite my not buying one of them, continue to make hit records.

So this is the earliest live recording I have from Pat Benatar. It comes just two months after the release of her debut album. I didn't realize that seven of the ten songs on In The Heat Of The Night, including the title track, were cover tracks. The show you are reading about now has six of the nine songs are covers. To varying degrees of success Pat makes the covers hers enough to snag some FM radio attention for "I Need A Lover", "No You Don't" and "Heartbreaker". Pat Benatar's debut along with her next two albums, Crimes Of Passion and Precious Time, will establish her as one of the pioneers of Women in Hard Rock & Heavy Metal. Us leather jacket boys fell for Pat Benatar for her music just as much as her sex appeal.

Yep Rosebud picked this weeks entry for Pre-FM Season, she said....

It's simple Pat Benatar was one of the first woman Hard Rock artist to really open up that genre for future ladies...This boot is actually from the days after she change her sound some to fit the MTV era...Dave once told me if not for the style change she might have gone on to be a queen of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal instead of Lita Ford. I agree....

Draftervois Original notes:
Here's a Pat Benatar show from the late 1980s...probably from late 1988, digitized from the syndicated radio show discs.

The vinyl was mint, virtually unplayed, so the sound quality is top-notch. There's a similar (but not identical) show circulating on the Internet as "from the Westwood One Superstars In Concert" attributed to Philadelphia with a date of November 10, 1988...but this differs in several songs. It's likely that WW1 broadcast the show several times but with different running orders, and swapping out several songs. I'm not sure if the date they list for that show is the broadcast date of the syndicated show, or the date of the actual concert, so I'm not listing a date. I also haven't compared the tracks to see if they're from the same source. If you have it, perhaps you can check and post something in the comments?

The Tower Theater is in Upper Darby, a suburb of Philadelphia, so I've listed it with the name of that township.

As usual, I've included scans of the cover, cue sheet, affidavit, and a record label. I've tracked the commercials and the Westwood One breaks so that you can exclude them if you're not interested.

Additional notes:
Myron Grombacher gets no mention in the band introduction at the end "One Love" but I'm pretty sure it must be him.

Considering all available information it should be safe to assume this concert was indeed recorded at the Tower Theater, Upper Darby, PA on November 10, 1988.

A pretty good FM recording from early in Pat Benatar's career. I can't help wondering why someone would call in a bomb threat to a Pat Benatar show. Any way for our first Pat boot on The New JDP it's a great place to start.

Also a nice way to start what will be a running theme for the month, and that's Women Who Rock.
