It's a nice sounding boot from the Prince Of Darkness. I like this line-up as well, I've seen them at a few Ozzfests, they are a great live unit. They used to play a medley of Ozzy era Black Sabbath songs in the middle of "Suicide Solution". It was kind of Ozzy's idea, he told the band that he didn't want a featured guitar solo. Hence the medley was invented. It had a funky beat ala Faith No More or Infectious Groves, Joe Holmes is Ozzy's under rated guitar player for the way he played Ozzy Sabbath material across those funky rhythms. Everyone was into it so hey Ozzy was right on that. The guitar solo did come back after Zakk Wylde returned to the fold.

One could argue that the set list is a little stale for this tour. The only non Ozzy live staple is "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath". It is not a usual choice for Ozzy since the high pitch vocal is hard on/for Ozzy's voice. Ozzy was on the road a lot between Ozzmosis and Down To Earth. Six years between studio albums is a long time. I do remember Ozzy and the band playing around with the sets because of the lack of new material. I remember one Ozzfest the keyboard player (not sure which one) was visible on stage, stage right front, in the top of a skull. The set list that night (I'm sure every night of that tour) was keyboard heavy. I swear as I was lighting a big doobie the show opened to "Diary Of A Madman". It was quite some time ago so it's blurry but I am pretty sure they actually played it. None of Mine and Rosebud's friends were there that night so I can't verify the memory.....

Another show from a cache of Faith No More bootlegs I downloaded from a Russian bit torrent tracker. There was roughly 9GB of shows which are all said to be soundboard or broadcast quality. Also included was some Fantomas and Mr. Bungle shows reported as soundboard or broadcast quality as well. I received this as a CD-r. After I ripped the waves with EAC I did a lossy test with Traders Little Helper and it came back as MPEG with a 95% possibility so I encoded it to MP3 320kbps. There was no cue sheet or info given. I think that it's a compilation of a couple different Westwood One shows (see the included additional info text).

Like Primus, Faith No More is hard to classify as a Heavy Metal band although they are easily accepted by the Metal World as such. Faith No More combine a lot of different musical elements to come up with a very unique sound. Like Primus and Type O Negative there is and will never be a Faith No More clone. And like the a fore mentioned bands Faith No More's live presence was completely their own. There were no lines between serious artistry and self parody, to the point where only the artists themselves were in on the joke. This made it very hard for the large labels to market them, who tried desperately to cash in on their core cult following.

This Pre-FM recording catches Faith No More in all their live glory. Short as it is, it's also a good representation of Faith No More live. IMHO they definitely never attained the levels of success that they deserved.
