The first of today's Sunday Morning Jazz offerings is a huge one with something for every Jazz fan. A celebration of the many phases of Miles Davis' career.

This marathon tribute concert lasted over 12 hours. This 8 CD set contains every performance from the show with out all the breaks in between resulting in over 9 hours of performances.

It's been remastered by Emperor Nobody so Thank You to him and to the original tape and uploader. The FLAC file set is HUGE! The MP3 file set is overly large. Because of this I have separated the files into smaller downloads. Each zip file should open by itself. The box set is 8 CDs: The FLAC is divided into 4 Downloads, 2 CDs each. The MP3 is divided into 2 Downloads 4CDS each

This show is on my player right now as I write this. I'm sitting here at my kitchen table, drinking coffee, looking out at my back yard. My backyard extends into some protected Michigan Wetland. It's about 80 feet deep and twice as wide (I have a double lot). I am legally not allowed to do anything with it but enjoy the view. We took our Halloween pumpkins and threw them in the middle of the back field. Right now 3 deer are laying in my back yard as a 4th stands there munching on one of the pumpkins. It couldn't be more relaxing. Have a good Sunday my friends....Ahhh Rosebud's up gotta go...

Another great recording by this quartet of Legends. This show can best be described as "An Hour Of Greatness". Can you tell that this line up blows the back of my head right off. Even on their worst night, these players will eclipse what/who ever else is on the bill. I have this one playing right now while I sit between the speakers in my computer room posting music for your Sunday Morning Jazz...

I have broken up this large file set into 4 zip files. CD's 1 & 2, CD's 3 & 4 etc. Each zip file will open separately because I found some visitors were having problems with the multi-part zip files.

2 of The New JDP's favorite Jazz players, saxophonist Chris Potter & bassist Dave Holland are joined by tabla player Zakir Hussain to create some out of this world music. Over an hour and a half worth to be precise. I love it, and Rosebud who normally likes Fusion or Traditional Jazz enjoyed it as well. You don't have to be really into different music to enjoy it either. The music though a little different is still open and warm like an old musical friend. I have enjoyed repeated spins of this show. I have also ordered the CD of their debut Good Hope.

What can I say about The Legendary Herbie Hancock that I haven't said already. For that matter the same goes for Wayne Shorter and Dave Holland. There are 17 Herbie Hancock related shows on the site (here), 10 Wayne Shorter related shows (here), and a staggering 21 Dave Holland related shows (here). So I am going to concentrate my comments on the awe inspiring performance on the drums by Brian Blade. Brian Blade has recorded/performed with more Jazz artists than I want to name here but Chick Corea, Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldah & Daniel Lanois have all used Brian for drums. Brian is the perfect anchor for the wandering improvisation that Herbie, Wayne & Dave want to present here. The man can go from powerhouse to soft inflections on a dime. The intricacies are superbly accented & supported by Brian's playing. This is another show from the quartets Forensic Music Tour. If you want more the 1st one posted on the site can be found (here).

In my haste to make my last post I didn't do a very good search and posted a show from Miles Davis that had been released on the Bootleg Series #3 Miles At The Fillmore. So I had to delete that post. So then I had to come up with a show from the same line-up and same quality. This recording is just that. Containing both the early and late shows from the Sextet's March 6, 1970 appearance at The Fillmore East. The March 7, 1970 show was released as It's About Time in 2001 but this show remains unreleased. Many consider this show to be superior to the official March 7 release. This two night stand was the last shows that Wayne Shorter would play with Miles Davis.

This recording came to me as one big file. The music is almost continuous and the sound is very good. I left the file as is instead of indexing the songs and re-encoding. This is some great music performed by 2 of my favorite artists and comes highly recommended.

I downloaded this from BigO a great resource for bootlegs in a wide range of genres in MP3 format. BigO sometimes pair up recordings from similar artists to round out CDs. This time they paired the experimental music of Chick Corea Circle and Herbie Hancock Mwandishi. Both performances also come from The Jazz House in 1971.

BigO split the tracks "Titelfolge" and "Speak Like A Child" for easier downloading from their site.

I downloaded this from BigO and they split "Aziza Dance" & "Walkin' The Walk" to make it easier to download from their site. The recording was originally uploaded as three tracks. This is an amazing sounding recording and one fantastic performance. Dave Holland is no stranger to those of you who have been following The New JDP for a while and we recently introduced you to Chris Potter's sax playing. The combination of the two makes for a must have recording for all Jazz enthusiasts.
