I have had this DVD for a little while now but had to research it to make sure it was not an official release. The DVD artwork said it was a 2009 German licensed release of a 2004 Geffen Records release. The art also says it is from a 2004 North Sea Jazz Festival performance. The show is from a 2003 North Sea Jazz Festival performance from when Pat Metheny was Artist In Residence for the festival. If it was an official release you would think the date would be correct. Also I checked Pat Metheny's website and the DVD is not listed or being sold by Pat Metheny's official store. So unless someone tells me otherwise it's a bootleg and ready for download along with the audio.

The show is an awesome performance with The Metropole Orchestra. The arrangements are fabulous and everyone puts in an awe inspiring performance. Pat Metheny fans are going to love this recording. I run my DVD player through my stereo because it has Surround Sound with a subwoofer. My computer is hooked to my stereo also because of my collecting of bootlegs and my encoding of shows. Therefore easy to record DVD audio on my computer.

The DVD is uploaded into it's own MEGA folder, the audio rips are zipped as usual. If any one has problems downloading the DVD let me know.

This CD comes from my personal collection. I did not know that it was a bootleg until recently. It's an awesome sounding recording of a phenomenal performance. Just look at the talent on that stage, anymore and it would collapse under the weight. Joshua Redman on sax, Pat Metheny on guitar, Christian McBride on bass rounded out by the rock solid drumming of Billy Higgins. I couldn't think of a better match to the Chic Corea & Gay Burton show I just posted. I hope these 2 recordings help ease you into a nice Sunday Morning.

This show is also released as You Speak My Language on vinyl. Every release I have came across on the net has the set list in a different order. The sound of this recording is very good and brings together 2 of my Favorite Jazz Guitarists. With Steve Swallow & Bill Stewart rounding out the group you have a line-up that can't lose. To round out the double disc format you get one hell of a set of bonus tracks. John Scofield, Bill Frisell, Marc Johnson & Peter Erskine together, it's a double win!

A great performance from Lyle Mays and his band. The Pat Metheny Group's keyboardist playing with a fabulous Sextet including one of my favorite sax players Joe Lovano. Everyone who follows Pat Metheny has a good idea how this group may sound. Though this Sextet doesn't use the exact same tone and timbre of The Pat Metheny Group, Lyle May's talent in such musical areas are clearly on display. The solo piano in "Mars" is example enough of Lyle's talents.

I just got this show a few weeks ago and it is the reason I reposted 2 other Lyle Mays boots. An FM broadcast from the Lyle Mays Quartet's 1992 Umeå Jazzfestival appearance. The other is the Power Station Demos for Lyle Mays 1st album. Sorry today's Jazz On Sunday is just from a single artist. Lucky for all it's someone as talented as the late Lyle Mays

Lyle Mays passed away February 10, 2020 after a long illness, he was 66. So for our Jazz offerings this round of uploads, we have the 1986 Demos from the making of Lyle's eponymously titled first solo album. For those who may not know, Lyle Mays was the keyboardist co-founder of The Pat Metheny Group. Lyle co-wrote with Pat Metheny on almost all of their recorded output. It was the playing of Bill Evans, Chick Corea & Herbie Hancock that inspired the keyboard legend to play Jazz. By 14 years old Lyle was playing organ at his church. In his lifetime Lyle was nominated for 23 Grammys, he won 10. These demos sound pretty damn good and are a great look at the making of a fabulous album.

This early career broadcast from The Pat Metheny Group is a little "bright" sounding but very enjoyable. It's had the "Goody Treatment" (remastering) but I turn the treble down a little when listening to this recording. Don't be discouraged by that comment, it's a "little bright" but not "brittle" or "tinny" sounding. It's not too thin that you don't hear the bass either. It's a nice listen. Pat Metheny collectors need this show if not for the way the band tacks Keith Jarrett's "The Wind Up" at the end of "Unity Village". It is the usual stellar performance we all come to love from the Pat Metheny Group.

This show is on my player right now as I write this. I'm sitting here at my kitchen table, drinking coffee, looking out at my back yard. My backyard extends into some protected Michigan Wetland. It's about 80 feet deep and twice as wide (I have a double lot). I am legally not allowed to do anything with it but enjoy the view. We took our Halloween pumpkins and threw them in the middle of the back field. Right now 3 deer are laying in my back yard as a 4th stands there munching on one of the pumpkins. Alright let first say do not be afraid to download this one because of the tracks with cuts. This is a nice sounding recording and a great performance, and the cuts offer minimal annoyance. This humble listener really enjoyed this boot and I am listening to it again right now.

This is one of the many shows recorded for The Road To You, the Pat Metheny Group's 1993 live album. I have no idea what songs were used from each date and could find no info. This is a great sounding recording from a fabulous concert. The band is playing at peak performance. At the beginning of the show Pat assures the audience they will hear the songs they want to hear because they plan on playing a long time. The band then proves Pat to have understated it, this show is two and a half hours long! The audience definitely get their money's worth and more. So all my Pat Metheny fan friends, sit back with a nice glass of wine, turn the stereo to a nice volume and enjoy!

When I originally posted The PMG Companion Volume 1 (1976 – 1980) there were a lot of requests for Volume 2. I downloaded Volume 1 from the etre.org torrent tracker, Volume 2 disappeared before I could download it. It came back so I grabbed it.

The PMG Companion, Vol. II: 1981 – 1982 "The Travels Companion" is actually meant to be just that, a companion to the official Travels live album. With this 2 CD set along with the Travels LP you have a commercial quality recording of every song the second line-up of The Pat Metheny Group performed live in it's 2 years together.

This set like Volume 1 comes with a very comprehensive set of liner notes for each track. The artwork was put together with special care as well. if you loved Volume 1 you will love Volume 2. If you don't have Volume 1 yet I have it here. If you want more Pat Metheny shows you can find them on the site here.

Recording notes:
WLIR/WRVR broadcast, Pre FM source. This recording is directly from the broadcast truck’s soundboard, not the house board. The original Maxell XL-2 dolby cassette master was recorded on a Nakamichi 550 and has been transferred (in 2002-09) to CD via a calibrated Nakamichi CR7a through an SBM1 to a Lynx card. Edited and mastered in SoundForge.
