Judas Priest fans will love this show! Rob Halford is in fine voice and there are songs in the set that will be dropped in later years. The almost 11 minute "Genocide" is worth the download time alone. This tour was the beginning of Judas Priest aiming for a more radio friendly style hoping to really break in the United States yet keeping the core "sound" they had developed over the previous years. At this point in time Judas Priest had yet to headline most US cities it played. The ones they did were in smaller theaters than the arenas they served as opening act in. They had not even played Detroit and wouldn't until headlining their Screaming For Vengeance Tour. Their headlining gig at Cobo Hall Arena even including Iron Maiden as opening act, on tour for Number Of The Beast. It was mind blowing!!

Early broadcast from Judas Priest on their Stained Class tour. A lot of Judas Priest fans prefer the recordings with Les Binks on drums. Each time Judas Priest changed drummers there was a change to the music as well. When Les Binks joined The Priest actually took a heavier turn. Heavier and faster, but when Dave Holland joined Priest took a more commercial turn. The songs seemed to be written for a more radio friendly sound. When Dave Holland was replaced with Scott Travis Judas Priest returned to a Heavier sound. Not sure if these were calculated moves or just what happens when a band changes one ingredient in the mix.
This recording does show it's age or maybe more correctly it's generation. I would love to get a hold of a 1st Gen copy or the master because this is an awesome early performance from Priest. It is an enjoyable listen, but has a few little flaws...

From the second leg of the World Wide Blitz Tour, which was the tour to promote the Point Of Entry album. 1st of 2 nights at the Hammersmith Odeon, London, England. This is a very nice sounding recording and encoding. It's labeled as a remix but there was no notes as to what was done during said remix.
Judas Priest neglected their Detroit fans, not making a tour stop until 1982s Screaming For Vengence Tour. Never as an opening act, only when they were headliners. It really doesn't make sense to me since Detroit was/is a major concert market. Tickets were hard to get. You either camped outside Cobo Arena box office or bought them from a scalper. I don't remember who the opener was. It is still one hell of a blur to me for more reason than one. The main ones being a bag of nice green bud & the beer I bought with my new fake ID card.
The flac file set is rather large so I split it into 2 parts. Each part will open separately

Fight was a favorite of mine, to me it sounded like Judas Priest on steroids. The band was even heavier sounding live. I caught them at Harpo's Concert Theatre in Detroit, Michigan (a pit of a concert theater actually). There are some that say Rob Halford's solo material was far away from the Metal sounds of Judas Priest. The only album not in the same formula as Priest was 2wo. 2wo was an Industrial-Metal Project with John5 on guitar and Trent Resner of Nine Inch Nails producing. I actually looked forward to that project, because an Industial-Metal band with Rob Halford screaming over it sounded like an interesting proposition. The fact is that Rob actually under sang the songs, while Resner's production removed the balls from the music. The result was an unvaried sounding record that sounded as if the singer could really give a shit about the songs. I don't listen to it very often but it still gets some play.

This is a remastered and speed corrected version of the show we posted some time ago. If you downloaded the last post your going to want this one since the last one actually was running a little slow and had some other glitches that were taken care of for a better listen. The tape still show some age but is a welcome addition any collection.

Black Sabbath - Eighth Star ~ DEP International Studios Digbeth, Birmingham, England, xx-xx-1996 (Studio)
This is the first in a couple Rosebud Picks in tribute to another favorite singer of hers Glenn Hughes. Like me Rosebud feels the Glenn Hughes-David Coverdale era of Deep Purple is very underrated by a lot of Rock & Rollers. Some Purple fans love Deep Purple MKIII some don't. Personally I am a fan of all Deep Purple line-ups but one. The line-up with Joe Lynn Turner, if Ritchie Blackmore wanted to make another Rainbow album he should have reformed that band. I'm not a big fan of Rainbow's Joe Lynn Turner era either but that's just my opinion (it's not that I hate it either just my least favorite I guess), Rosebud loves it (LOL).

I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I then used Goldwave to re-edit some track marks, adjust the volume, and to bring up the bass levels of this recording. This DVD has a couple drop outs in "Paranoid" but is very enjoyable to listen to.
On the day of this recording Ozzy Osbourne came down with bronchitis and was unable to sing for Black Sabbath. Rob "The Metal God" Halford of Judas Priest offered to perform in his place. We happen to be lucky enough that some one bootlegged the amphitheater video feed, so we get a soundboard recording of this once in a lifetime performance. Rob Halford has performed with Black Sabbath before in Costa Mesa California 1992 when Ronnie James Dio refused to sing at Ozzy Osbourne's retirement show. Rumors began circulated that Halford would join Sabbath in Dio's place, alas this didn't happen.

A nice Pre-FM recording from Judas Priest's Metal Conqueror Tour 1984 promoting their 9th studio album Defenders Of The Faith. Defenders Of The Faith was an immediate success as fans ate up copies sending the disc to Platinum status. Critics actually hated the album saying it sounded too close to Screaming For Vengeance and lacked a stand out single. Fans gave the critics a big middle finger and kept "Freewheel Burning", "Rock Hard Ride Free", "Love Bites", and "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll" in heavy rotation on Heavy Metal friendly FM radio stations by requesting them over and over again. This Pre-FM recording tops off Rosebud's tribute to the Metal God Rob Halford.

Black Sabbath is widely considered to be the fathers of the beast we all love to call Heavy Metal. Ian Gillan once said that until Sabbath came along the heavy groups thought being heavy meant playing louder. Judas Priest is credited with defining the modern Metal sound as well as the metal uniform of studs and leather. The band is in fine form on this recording proving they deserve the title of Metal Gods. The set list is awesome, you still get classics like "Tyrant" & "Beyond The Realms Of Death", plus "Solar Angels" & "Dessert Plains" which are not played much after this tour. The sound quality is great but a little crisp on the high end as most Pre-FM recordings are EQed to compensate for the FM signals natural cutting of a recordings high end.
