Recording Notes:
- Recording came with no commercials, show promos, or test tone.

Editing Notes:
- A Zerostat Positive Ion gun was used on LPs prior to playback.
- A carbon fiber record brush, then a microfiber disc cleaner was used on the records prior to playback.
- Records hand cleaned with Record Research Lab Super Record Wash before playback.
- LP cleaned with the HumminGuru Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning System using distilled water prior to playback.
- Raw transfer: EQ off, treble and bass levels set at +/- zero for most accurate sound of LP.
- Turntable & tone arm balanced: Needle Tracking & Azimuth set: Needle Pressure & Antiskid digitaly set:
- Computer Soundcard stereo field maximized.
- Goldwave set to record while filtering any DC Offset.
- Recording and all editing done in 24bit/96khz.
- Preservation being key the show is encoded complete with commercials and voiceovers.
- Declicked manually and some noise reduction used depending on what best served the situation. Most pops and snaps actually removed manually since there was not a lot.
- Crossfades were needed between Track 07 and Track 08, Track 10 and 11, Track 15 and 16 for a smoother listening experience.
- There was no Bill Minkin King Biscuit Flower Hour Break announcement between Segments One and Two which is the transition between Tracks 07 and 08.
- There was a 3 second blank gap between tracks 10 and 11.
- There was a 2 second gap between Track 16 and Track 16.

- I remember as a young teen hearing the name Alice Cooper and my Mom telling me I was never alowed to play his music in her house because of the song "Dead Babies". My 17 year old Uncle left an 8-track tape in his car that my Dad was fixing for him. It was home recorded and labeled The Best Of Alice Cooper. It was not the actual release Alice Coopers Greatest Hits but a tape he made. When I heard the song "Dead Babies" followed by "I Love The Dead" not only was I mesmerized I wondered why they made so much out of "Dead Babies" a song about neglect and abuse when he had a song like "I Love The Dead". The tape did have a couple of "the hits" but mostly stuff like "Killer", "Ballad Of Dwight Fry", and "Black JuJu". I was already a Black Sabbath fan thanks to his 8-tracks in his car Alice Cooper was the same way.
- Fast forward a few years and my Mom comes home with the "I Never Cry" 7 inch single. She then buys "You And Me" and "How You Gonna See Me Now".

This Sunday Morning Jazz saw me in a guitar mood so I put on this new John Scofield recording I just downloaded and played it twice actually. I joined the MeTaLMaDNesSS.Team ed2k forum because they have bootlegs from really heavy Metal bands like Cannibal Corpse, Beherit, and Morbid Angel. I never would have guessed I would find an FM recording of one of my favorite Jazz guitarists. This little gem here came from that very same tracker where I downloaded a Flac version of the Cannibal Corpse bootleg Butchering Chicago 1992.

The recording is very nice, it's a little shy on information but not shy on the guitar playing all Sco's fans have come to expect from him when buying a ticket, an album or just listening to a concert on the radio. If you download just one Jazz show today, my advice is make it this one! Oh by the way, when you read the songs titles during your listen, remember that John has said he writes and records the songs then lets his wife name them. He has her give a title based on her initial reaction to the song. Now think of that when you read the title "I Brake For Monster Booty" while listening to that Funky Groove.

- Show was uploaded as one long Flac file with a cue. I used Cue Tools to decode and index the tracks. I then had to fix some blank spots at the beginning and end of each track. After that I used Trader's Little Helper to align the files on sector boundaries and encode them to Flac Level 8

This is a raw soundboard with warts and all, there was a bit of work by the team that brought us this rare gem. There is volume fluctuations, hiss, amplifier hum and some other issues. The team that worked the recording did not do a complete remaster more like rough finish construction work. I have left the comments about the source and work already done. I've been listening to this one quite a bit since I downloaded it. I think it's a very enjoyable listen flaws and all. Someone will most likely give it a remaster sooner or later until then we have to enjoy what we have.

- A fascinating progression of pieces, some of them seemingly unique to this performance.

- God Then also appears in the Illuminations sessions
- The two Alice Coltrane solo pieces do not correspond to any composition or existing track we can find. We believe them to be improvisations and have labeled them thus.
- Africa is of course the John Coltrane song of that title.

About The Recording And Mastering Process:
- Provided in a lossless audio format with no information beyond a mildly incorrect date and location. Jesse corrected the date; the SF Examiner listing he found is provided.
- Presumably from the quality of the recording a reel to reel master was made from the soundboard and at least one, possibly a few, analog generations exist between that master and the digital transfer.
- The files provided contained many minor flaws. Due to the historic nature of this file set I have chosen to correct very few of them, using minimally invasive methods, for this initial version. The recording merits and could benefit from professional remastering. So I tried not to do anything that would get in the way of that.
- I joined all the files together using very minor splices and overlaps. No music was edited.
- I fixed the many clipping errors, but did nothing else to the levels.
- The pieces in the first half of the show are introduced by the artists.
- Jeremy and I figured out the rest of them.
- Details of instrumentation were determined by Jeremy. Thanks again for that excellent work.
- The original file set came with the studio sessions for the Illuminations album, which we will circulate as a separate file set. The recordings are at least approximately contemporaneous and together represent a significant addition to the available archival material relating to this era of Alice Coltrane's career. It has been our honor and privilege to work on this historic material.
