Alright this is truly a rare find. It's difficult to even locate a Toe Fat album, but a bootleg, wow! Toe Fat to some are a footnote in the Rock And Roll History Book referencing other bands. Two members of Toe Fat, Ken Hensley & Lee Kerslake, left to form Uriah Heep after the first album. John Glascock went on to join Jethro Tull. Brian Glascock went on to play with Captain Beyond, Iggy Pop, The Motels & The Bee Gees. Alan Kendall went on to play lead guitar for The Bee Gees. Of course there was Lee & Ken's first band The Gods with future E.L.P. member Greg Lake. The Gods first single is included here. The main body of this disc is the BBC appearances of Toe Fat. Toe Fat's Psychodelic Hard Rock was vital to The Roots Of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal.

This installment of Rosebud's Tribute To Her Favorite Singers may be a bit of a surprise. Then again we did just have a Country Music show pick by Rosebud so Gordon Lightfoot isn't such a stretch. You would be hard pressed to find someone who grew up in Michigan that doesn't know "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald". The song or the shipwreck that inspired it. Gordon Lightfoot's music was also all over Michigan Radio Stations. The Legenday AM Radio Station CKLW out of Windsor, Ontario, Canada would play Gordon Lightfoot all the time. The station carried American artists but had a Canadian artist first policy. A lot of Michigan artists would open an office in Canada just to get radio airplay on CKLW. Legend says that the station wired it's transmitter to The Windsor-Detroit Tunnel making the Detrot River a transmitter. This made the station heard as far as Scandinavia. In actuality the tunnel was wired so that CKLW could still be heard in the tunnel. If that helped boost it's signal I don't know. Now the tunnel is wired so that WJR Detroit AM can be heard while driving in the tunnel.

justdave's notes:
I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I then used Goldwave to raise the volume, edit track marks, and take care of a few noises from  Massimo Morante's microphone when he turns it on to speak. No noise reduction or equalization was used. There is a bit of his during in between tracks and a amplifier hum as well. This does not however take away from the enjoyable listening experience that this recording is.

So when I say the word Goblin what comes to mind first. A B rated horror movie, or a green bad guy in a Spiderman comic. If I said it's a band's name do you think Cheesy 1980's Hair/Glam Metal. You don't immediately come to a Jazz Influenced Progressive Rock Band from Italy that specializes in movie soundtracks. Now that we have arrived to this point I can tell you this Goblin show is a great installment in our Tribe To Progressive Rock.

Okay Allman Brothers Band & Gov't Mule fans here's a nice rarity for you. Bass player Allen Woody leading his own Power Jam of sorts called Woody's Truck Stop. I'm not sure how many of these shows he did , at least some one recorded this one for posterity. Allen Woody died August 26, 2000 at the age of 44, from a heroin overdose. Makes it even nicer to have at least a C rated recording of this show than not at all. This is not the best sounding soundboard recording you'll listen to. This one is a little rough. You have sound level fluctuations, drop outs, and a bit of a muddy sound. It may be great for the True Gov't Mule Head, not so for the casual listener. It's not that it's complete shit but it's not something that will be constantly on your playlist.

I've been on a bit of a Joshua Redman kick lately. That of course means more Joshua Redman to download. This makes our 15th Joshua Redman related post. There are recordings of Joshua with The Bad Plus, James Farm, Pat Metheny, his Legendary Father Dewey Redman, and his own trios, quartets, etc. I guess you could say I'm a bit of a fan. The thing is, and Rosebud will back me up here, my ferret Chewy is a piano & saxophone Jazz fan. I know it sounds weird but animals do like music and piano & saxophone music makes him lay in front of the stereo, listen and fall asleep. Anything with horns is okay with him actually, including Earth, Wind & Fire. So when he's being a little too mischievous it's Joshua Redman or Joe Lovano time.

Take a minute to look at that Quartet's line-up. Herbie Hancock piano, Freddy Hubbard trumpet, Ron Carter bass, and Tony Williams on drums. Any Jazz lover reading this will need no prompting to download this one. For the casual Jazz fan, this is not Hard Avant-Garde Jazz, Free Form Jazz, Funk-Jazz or Jazz Fusion. This is a more traditional style of Jazz, so nothing to fear here. If you just download a Jazz show here and there, this is one you should do just that. I recommend you'll enjoy it!
