With Tuckerized The Marshall Tucker band tried to court the Country Radio Top 40 Charts. The band had always been a blend of Country Music, Jazz, R & B, Blues, and Rock & Roll. The Country Music elements were brought more to the fore, while the rest was minimized. The band also allowed the producers to supply most of the songs, writing only 2 themselves. Toy Caldwell's "Sea Dreams & Fairy Tales" and George McCorckle's "Sweet Elaine". The rest were written by outside writers including the Randy Newman penned "Mr. President". Only 2 more studio albums would be released before the band would fracture. Doug Gray and Jerry Eubanks remained but the rest of the band left after 1983's Greetings from South Carolina.

This recording catches The Marshall Tucker Band opening for The Allman Brothers Band. This had to be a great New Years show, Southern Rock at it's finest. The MTB had yet to record their second album, but they play a couple songs from it here. So download this one to hear a band on he cusp of a creative spell that will yield some of the best Southern Rock albums of the era.

A re-broadcast of a great Toy Caldwell concert, the show was re-broadcast in tribute to Toy the day hs death was announced on the radio. Toy had left the Marshall Tucker Band to embark on a solo career. He released one fantastic album of southern rock as only Toy can write called I Hear The South Calling Me. On this recording from a show Toy opened for the Outlaws, Toy throws in some of his newer material with a healthy dose of Marshall Tucker classics. Toy passed in his sleep, leaving a large hole in the southern rock universe. Toy's voice is a little road weary, not used to carrying a whole concert, as Doug Gray did the majority of the vocals for Marshall Tucker, but this show is a must have for fans of southern rock and Tucker fans alike. I haven't run across another FM or soundboard of this now legendary performer.

Southern Rock invaded Don Kirshner's Rock Concert in September of 1973. The music scene in Macon Georgia was bursting at the seams in the early 1970's with The Allman Brothers Band spear heading the whole affair. The scene was so large that Don Kirshner and Bill Graham both came down to shine a camera light on it. Kicking off with the Dixie Fried Funk of Wet Willie to warm up the crowd, outside the Opera House on a flat bed truck, was a great idea. After that the capacity crowd is led in to the Opera House for a set from The Marshall Tucker Band. The MTB's brand of Jazz Influenced Country Rock is a perfect precursor to the Bluesed up Jazz of The Allman Brothers Band. The Allman Brothers Band's set flows with an ease that belies the hard times that the band had suffered. Easing into his role playing Dwayne Allman's slide parts, Dickey Betts never lets evidence through that he felt inadequate to play them. This is a great performance by all involved and should make a nice addition to any southern rock fans collection.
