- Thank you to the original taper and person who uploaded the files to ed2k servers.

I downloaded this great sounding recording from an ed2k server link using Emule! Hows that for old school technology?! Anyway, it's an awesome show from Mark Knopfler and what I do believe is the final line up of Dire Straits, I may be wrong of course. I love it because of the version of my favorite Dire Straits song "Sultans Of Swing". Yeah I know but it really is, this version is about 10 minutes long so it's a nice jam on the song.

This is such an amazing show! This has to be one of the best Jazz shows I have shared in a while. Maybe not as adventurous as the last Herbie Hancock show I shared. It is however just as clean sounding and an awe inspiring performance. I became a fan of Brad Mehldah after hearing him play a solo piano rendition of Nick Drake's "River Man" right after playing an awesome version of the Lennon/McCartney penned "Martha My Dear". This is a re-post and upgrade to this post here which was posted in MP3 320kbps. This one also has slightly different information. The original uploader said this recording was from a date in New York City, New York at an undisclosed location. The info on the CD says it was recorded Live In The U.S.A. '94 so that is the info I am going to use for this upgraded re-post. The CD is also a promo only CD sent to radio stations to promote Joshua Redman. It is a Pre-FM Recording actually, so there you go.

Joshua Redman is the son of Jazz Saxophone Legend Dewey Redman. Dewey Redman had played with them all: Keith Jarrett, Charlie Haden, Don Cherry, Ornette Coleman, Paul Motian and Flautist Jane Bunnett to name a few. There was a performance from a band called Fathers And Sons which not only had saxophonists Dewey & Joshua Redman but the father son duo Von & Chico Freeman. That band also had Brad Mehldau piano, and Christian McBride on bass, therefore a bigger connection to these 2 posts. The band had been rounded out by Gregory Hutchinson on drums. I shared a BurnBoy recording of Steely Dan and Steve Winwood in Canada together. It seemed to be a hit, so I figured another BurnBoy recording that I loved hearing should get some downloads. It's actually my only Chilliwack recording and has gotten a lot of stereo time. It's a nice recording with pretty in your face quality. Rosebud asked if it was an audience soundboard matrix or IEM. No it's a clear recording and a great show from a band I've enjoyed since I was a kid. A local Michigan band called Mariner recorded a cover of Chilliwack's "Fly At Night" on their debut, and only album. I liked the song so I went out and got the album from Chilliwack. I liked it and I bought more. If your like me and really liked this band but don't have any shows from them, Download this one you will love it!!

Alright the one thing everyone who visits this blog should know is that if it's a Draftrevoi then it's a quality encoding. This is a Draftervoi so therefore a quality encoding. It's also a great pairing and example of 1980's Hard Rock Radio. Early on we got the sanitized version of the Hard Rock / Heavy Metal scene. I'm not kicking sand at either band here. Triumph is a great Hard Rock Traditional Heavy Metal band. They were an awesome live band or I wouldn't have paid to see them 4 times. Billy Squire had a good Hard Rock band backing him and he wrote some great hooks. Almost every song on his second album Don't Say Know was an FM Radio Hit. There are 3 tracks from that album I don't remember hearing on the radio. The thing is that a lot heavier bands were releasing great albums. Black Sabbath is a great example because you would hear "Paranoid", "War Pigs", "Iron Man" and "Heaven And Hell". That's the ones deemed tolerable for radio. I have a DJ Copy of Alice Cooper's "I'll Never Cry". Next to the title is the word tolerable. When they first started playing Metallica, it was their slowest track "Fade To Black". You do need this great Hard Rock / Heavy Metal show...I mean it's Live versions of "Blinding Light Show" and "Rock And Roll Machine"!!!

This project came about because every version on the net seems to be from the same source. That source is pretty deficient in the bass department and also incomplete missing the final encore "Thank You For The Feeling" and the interview after the show. So I decided to encode my master recording.

I attended the show with some friends and had my ex-wife record the broadcast for me at home. She forgot to start my tape until the band intros just before "Blue Collar", 4 tracks were missed but she caught the rest of the show for me. Like most people she thought the show was over after "Taking Care Of Business" so she started to fade the tape but figured she would record the interview for me to make up for the 4 lost tracks. As she faded the recording back in the band was taking the stage for one more song. So I had a tape with 4 tracks missing. Enter my friend Gypsy Dan with his recording. His tape had the first 4 tracks mine was missing but had suffered some deterioration making some parts un-listenable. I used the first 4 tracks from Gypsy Dan's tape and the rest are from my own tape. The splice comes before the band introductions. Gypsy Dan's tape also had less bass than mine so some remixing was done to make the sources sound a little closer. CD break was made at "Stayed Awake All Night" because this is where the tape flip was at.

For cover art I just included the art from the common version.

playback & encoding:

I played both tapes on a Sony TC-WR661 Cassette Deck through a Sony TA-AV561 AV Control Integrated Amplifier to a Sony RCD-W500C Compact Disc Recorder using the super bit mapping function, onto a Maxell CD-R Music-Pro. The CD-Rs were then ripped with Exact Audio Copy. The waves were then remixed using Goldwave v.5.04. The waves were then encoded to flac level 8 with Traders Little Helper aligning all sector boundaries.

I don't know if I would call this the definitive version but this is the only complete version I have seen on the net. I have been told it is the best sounding by others.

The date to this has always been disputed on the internet and I did not have my ticket stub anymore to verify the date. Thanks to Draftervoi we now have a confirmed date of Monday, April 29, 1985. This is verified by 2 Detroit Free Press Newspaper Ads & 1 Windsor Star Newspaper Ad. These Ads are included for your verification.
