It's simple Pat Benatar was one of the first woman Hard Rock artist to really open up that genre for future ladies...This boot is actually from the days after she change her sound some to fit the MTV era...Dave once told me if not for the style change she might have gone on to be a queen of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal instead of Lita Ford. I agree....

Here's a Pat Benatar show from the late 1980s...probably from late 1988, digitized from the syndicated radio show discs.

The vinyl was mint, virtually unplayed, so the sound quality is top-notch. There's a similar (but not identical) show circulating on the Internet as "from the Westwood One Superstars In Concert" attributed to Philadelphia with a date of November 10, 1988...but this differs in several songs. It's likely that WW1 broadcast the show several times but with different running orders, and swapping out several songs. I'm not sure if the date they list for that show is the broadcast date of the syndicated show, or the date of the actual concert, so I'm not listing a date. I also haven't compared the tracks to see if they're from the same source. If you have it, perhaps you can check and post something in the comments?

The Tower Theater is in Upper Darby, a suburb of Philadelphia, so I've listed it with the name of that township.

As usual, I've included scans of the cover, cue sheet, affidavit, and a record label. I've tracked the commercials and the Westwood One breaks so that you can exclude them if you're not interested.

Additional notes:
Myron Grombacher gets no mention in the band introduction at the end "One Love" but I'm pretty sure it must be him.

Considering all available information it should be safe to assume this concert was indeed recorded at the Tower Theater, Upper Darby, PA on November 10, 1988.

Okay so I can't remember all the music Dave exposes me to..the stereo is on like 24-7. I looked through all the files on the hard drives. There are 4 of them hooked up. When I found the right spot, I opened the folder and looked at the end of each of the sub folders looking for SBD, FM, or ExAud and in big letters I see Pre-FM. That's my choice, so I start listening to it and realized I know and really like these guys. Like I said Dave plays so much different stuff it's hard to remember. I gave my list to Dave and he said "Yeah! That one...was just talking about finding it." So there you go....lolol

This time Rosebud picked our post for the Salute To Progressive Rock Bands Series. This is what she had to say about it....

Dave took me to my first Yes show about 2 years after we met. It was a show that focused more on the Radio hits I knew like "Owner Of A Lonely Heart", "Long Distance Runaround" etc. Unfortunately for some reason the sound was off in the theater balcony. You could barely hear and people kept shushing each other. The Next time we saw them was at Pine Knob Amphitheater which is a larger venue. We had like 8th row seats (Dave pulled some strings to get). They opened with a song I never heard before. When they announced the next song Dave said  something like "....Yes! Tales" lit a joint and passed it to me. Then said "You're most likely to hear the more Proggy side tonight". He was right they were awesome, I recognized "Roundabout" that was it LOL! On this recording there's a little hum sometimes from amplifiers but the band plays so well and it's not real noticeable when they play.

Okay this is kind of cheating but with this show you get entries into 2 of our running themes right now. I selected this Rush recording to be the next in our Salute To Progressive Rock Bands. I then realized that it is also an entry in our Roots Of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Series. Quite frankly Rush is the biggest influence on the Progressive Metal genre. You could almost say that without Rush there wouldn't be a Dream Theater, Fates Warning etc. As a matter of fact Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater counts Neil Peart as one of if not the greatest influence on his playing. This choice also gives me another chance to say genre purists don't quite accept Rush or any other Progressive Metal band as true Prog since it's Heavy Metal..I also get another chance to say I don't care for purist's rules for music.

This recording is a compilation of the 1978-1979 Tour Of The Hemispheres. Each track was chosen to give the best performance and sound quality representation. I personally love it. This was the 1st tour I seen of Rush's so it's great to get a "Live Album" from that tour.

This version has some surface noise issues on several tracks.  Specifically, "Tennessee Rose", "If I Needed You", "How High The Moon", and "The Boxer" have audible surface noise.  It's not bad, but it's not perfect, and usually my digitizations are better than this one.  In this case, the vinyl had more noise than I could remove without spending a year cleaning it up.  Eventually I'll find a better copy...so until then, this is the best that we've got of this show.  It's not bad... it's just not PERFECT and I always try and give you PERFECT digitizations.

Let's see...what else?  Oh, yeah, we've got a commercial with football legend Roger Staubach and Dodger's coach Tommy Lasorda!

Live From Gilley’s was a single LP syndicated radio show featuring country and country-rock acts that ran from 1981 until 1989 featuring live performances recorded at Gilley’s Club in Pasadena, Texas.  In 1986, performances recorded at venues other than Gilley’s were occasionally included, and as it’s ridiculous to say “Live From Gilley’s presents the Judds recorded live in Holland!,” announcer Jim Duncan would call out the show as “Westwood One Presents” instead of “Live From Gilley’s.”

At the same time, they continued to use the “Live At Gilley’s” record labels on these shows, but began identifying the non-Gilley’s recordings on the cue sheet as “Westwood One Presents.”

In 1989, the disc labels were switched to “Westwood One Presents” until the end of the "Westwood One Presents" show in 1990.

Emmylou Harris had broadcasts on "Live From Gilley's" in 1983 as show #83-14, on this show #84-04, and on "Best of Gilley's" compilation shows #83-44, 85-35, and 86-44.

Slipknot recorded these tracks for a planned first album. Instead it was used as a demo with only 1000 copies printed. Copies were given away to industry insiders to shop for a record deal. Pale One Music and other labels have released it unofficially. Slipknot has yet to release this demo tape officially.

For this installment of The Roots Of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal is one of the most successful of the Neo-Metal scene, Slipknot. Slipknot is in every respect an Ozzfest success story. 1999, the first year they were on the tour, they were an as yet unsigned band. They played for free that year as well. Appearing on the side stage with such other Ozzfest successes as (hed)P.E., Static-X, and Fear Factory. Slipknot's adrenaline fueled music & stage show mayhem won over the crowd fast. By Ozzfest 2001 Slipknot had graduated to the main stage this time touring to support their sophomore effort Iowa. They played Ozzfest again in 2004, this time headlining the side stage. Since then they have sold millions of albums and headline their own touring festival, Knotfest. This demo started it all. With only 1000 copies pressed it sure payed off. Most of these songs have surfaced on later releases in modified form. So all you Slipknot fans that have yet to score yourself a bootleg copy of this coveted demo hear is your chance.
