This is a very interesting boot. It has very good sound quality and a fabulous performance from all involved. What makes it interesting is the band itself. Formed By Emerson & Palmer with Robert Berry, 3 only released one album 3 To the Power of Three. There was a very short tour, with some shows being billed as Emerson & Palmer, no mention of Robert Berry. They were also augmented by a second guitarist and a backing vocalist. The show focused on the LP's material with a couple E.L.P. instrumentals thrown in, as well as The Byrds "Eight Miles High" and The Four Tops "Standing in the Shadows of Love". As for the original material itself, it is a mix of Prog and AOR. 3 disbanded in 1989 when Emerson and Palmer reunited with Greg Lake for the Black Moon release. Berry went on to a failed attempt by Steve Howe to replace Steve Hackett in GTR. Berry's current band Alliance is composed of Gary Pihl from the band Boston on guitar, David Lauser from the Sammy Hagar Band on drums and Alan Fitzgerald from Night Ranger on keyboards.

Known Faults: A couple of dropouts from issues during the original recording in "Tarkus", most seamlessly repaired in mastering

This is the latest Mike Millard Master Tape released by JEMS. Emerson, Lake & Palmer were on tour for their Brain Salad Surgery album, considered by many fans to be their best work. My go to E.L.P. album is Tarkus but then again I have an eccentric taste I've been told. I mean my go to Black Sabbath albums are Sabatage, Never Say Die and Born Again. My go to Pink Floyd is Meddle, My go to Aerosmith is Draw The Line, with Santana it's Caravanserai and with Bob Seger it's Seven.

At the end of this tour the band would take an extended break to plan their next move musically. It wouldn't be till 1977 that the follow up album to Brain Salad Surgery would be released. Works Volume 1 came with mixed reviews, seen as "bloated and self indulgent" by most due to the "solo sides" by Emerson and Lake mostly. Myself I say, like Guns N' Roses Use Your Illusion 1 & 2, between Works Volume 1 and Volume 2 you can make one good album. But hey that's just my opinion other's are just as valid.

What shouldn't be over looked at this time though is E.L.P.'s triple live album. Welcome Back My Friends To A Show That Never Ends...Ladies And Gentlemen Emerson, Lake & Palmer. It's a 1970s Live album with no overdubs!! Like Deep Purple's Made In Japan and Grand Funk Railroad's Live Album nothing on the album was fixed!! In a time when live albums were either heavily overdubbed like say Judas Priest's Unleashed in The East where all Rob Halford's vocals were re-recorded. Some live albums like Kiss' Alive and Peter Frampton's Frampton Comes Alive were basically re-created in the studio. The live recordings for ELP's Welcome Back My Friends were also used for the King Biscuit Flower Hour broadcast. This post is turning into the script for Ben Hur so I'll end it by saying Enjoy the music.

I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I then used Goldwave to re-edit some track marks, lower the volume and try to reduce sound clipping. No EQ or Noise Reduction used. No remastering of the sound was done. The recording is a little bass heavy but very listenable and enjoyable.

The death of Keith Emerson was a huge shock to his many fans. To lose one of your musical heroes is bad enough, to know it was suicide is worse. How could your hero who has the fame & fortune that music stardom gives be so depressed and lost. Keith Emerson, according to his wife, had been having  a re-occurrence of a medical condition that kept him from playing up to his ability and expectations. Keith was also drinking heavily, seriously depressed and nervous about an upcoming tour. 8 days prior to Emerson's suicide Ronnie Montrose, age 64, commit suicide due to his health problems related to a prostate cancer battle. Such a loss for the world.
