This is a very interesting boot. It has very good sound quality and a fabulous performance from all involved. What makes it interesting is the band itself. Formed By Emerson & Palmer with Robert Berry, 3 only released one album 3 To the Power of Three. There was a very short tour, with some shows being billed as Emerson & Palmer, no mention of Robert Berry. They were also augmented by a second guitarist and a backing vocalist. The show focused on the LP's material with a couple E.L.P. instrumentals thrown in, as well as The Byrds "Eight Miles High" and The Four Tops "Standing in the Shadows of Love". As for the original material itself, it is a mix of Prog and AOR. 3 disbanded in 1989 when Emerson and Palmer reunited with Greg Lake for the Black Moon release. Berry went on to a failed attempt by Steve Howe to replace Steve Hackett in GTR. Berry's current band Alliance is composed of Gary Pihl from the band Boston on guitar, David Lauser from the Sammy Hagar Band on drums and Alan Fitzgerald from Night Ranger on keyboards.

I was looking for 3 last year and couldn't find them. I am an ELP fan but when 3 was active, the band passed me by. Never saw or heard anything about them. Thank you JDP!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to search for their shows on the net. It's like searching for the band Live. You get everything but the band your looking for. I have a few more shows by them. I'll put some more up on the blog for you in a couple more days. I'll check them out and get some more ready for the next round of uploads. I'm a big ELP fan myself and love the 3 album so when I come across one of their shows I download it. I have 2 more FMs, a soundboard and a couple audience recordings.. I'll post the listenable ones for you with the next batch of uploads.

Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Gman! Every ELP fan should have at least one show from 3 in their collection. It's a shame the project didn't get better attention from the record companies. They played really small halls. In Detroit you couldn't touch tickets. They played a club that I played at. Tickets sold out quick. The biggest halls they played were about 2500 people. In Detroit 1200.
