The Ramones on tour to promote End Of The Century. The Ramones 5th studio album was recorded with legendary Wall Of Sound producer Phil Spector at the helm. The band admits that End Of The Century was written to broaden their audience. The grab for commercial appeal was not welcome to a lot of core Ramones fans. The album was the bands highest charting of their career. The reviews were mixed, as some critics praised the effort, while others simply trashed it. Sadly we have lost all 4 founding members of The Ramones. Joey Ramone died on April 15, 2001 from lymphoma at the age of 49. Dee Dee Ramone, who left the band in 1989, died from a heroin overdose June 5, 2002 at the age of 50. Johnny Ramone died at the age of 55 from prostate cancer September 15, 2004. Original drummer Tommy Ramone, who left the band in 1978, passed away July 11, 2014 from bile duct cancer at the age of 65.

This is one bad ass performance from Savatage as they promote their Gutter Ballet release. The album was a turning point for the band, as Jon Oliva was steering the band toward a more theatrical style of music. This release actually was the first step toward the band morphing into Trans-Siberian Orchestra. As the arraignments got bigger another guitarist/keyboardist was needed so Chris Caffery was recruited for the job. He had been touring with the band before hand but was kept off stage, for The Gutter Ballet Tour Chris became a full member of the band. Chris would bounce in and out of the band a couple times but has been a permanent member since 1995. Jon Oliva would actually leave the band in 1992 to focus on the band Doctor Butcher and work on a Broadway musical. Zachary Stevens would be named as Jon's replacement. Sadly Chris Oliva was killed on October 17, 1993 in an auto accident when a drunk driver struck Chris's car head on, he was only 30.

My first exposure to The Cramps was when I watched Urgh! A Music War on IT-TV when I was in high school. The movie had performances from quite a few bands that would shape the Punk/Post Punk/New Wave scenes in The US and The UK. The Dead Kennedys, The Police, 999, X, and XTC to name just a few. If you haven't seen it and you love the early stuff, seek it out you won't be disappointed. Most of the bands were featured in one performance, The Police being the only featured more than once. After seeing the movie I sought out material from the bands I had seen. Now the first Cramps album that I had was the 1986 release A Date With Elvis and it was one of the first CD's I bought when I started upgrading my collection to that format. This short BBC broadcast features 4 songs from A Date With Elvis. Sadly The Cramps are no more. They broke up after Lux Interior passed away February 4, 2009 from an aortic dissection at the age of 62.

The Beastie Boys on the Polar Fleece Tour supporting their Ill Communication release. Ill Communication peaked at #1 on The Billboard 200 in the US, while hitting #2 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Chart. The album spawned 4 singles, "Sabotage", "Get It Together", "Sure Shot", and "Root Down". The video for "Sabatage" was nominated in 5 different categories for the 1994 MTV Video Awards but lost every category. The band would release 4 more studio albums before Adam "MCA" Yauch would pass away from salivary gland cancer May 4, 2012, he was 47.

One of the then more controversial performances on Kirshner, the New York Dolls performance didn't go over well with the California audience. The crowd noise is dubbed from a Rufus and Chaka Kahn performance that same evening that was a lot better received. The Dolls were promoting their second Mercury album Too Much Too Soon but included tracks from both LP's. Mercury would drop the band from their roster shortly afterwards.

Formed in 1971, the Dolls got there big break when Rod Stewart invited them to open for his London show. Sadly, original drummer Billy Murcia died of accidental drowning shortly after the gig, when he passed out from a combination of drugs and alcohol. After auditioning Marc Bell (later Markey Ramone), they chose Jerry Nolan and the line up that would influence/kick start the New York Punk Rock scene was complete. 2 albums later and the Dolls would fray and unravel under a haze of drug addiction and disillusion.

David Johanson would go on to a respected solo career, and to perform as Buster Poindexter (earning him his biggest hit with "Hot, Hot, Hot"). Arthur "Killer" Kane would struggle with addiction to emerge a clean and sober member of the Mormon Church. He passed away from leukemia at the age of 55 on July 13, 2004. Johnny Thunders would go on to form The Heartbreakers with Jerry Nolan earning punk legend status before dying from an overdose of heroin and methadone at 38 in New Orleans on April 23 1991. Jerry Nolan would pass at the age of 45, on January 14, 1992 from a stroke brought on by bacterial meningitis.

David Johanson and Sylvain Sylvain continue to tour as the New York Dolls to this day.

1976 was not the best of years for Elvis Presley. His health was in serious decline from the prescription drugs he constantly took, he suffered from depression over his failed marriage and paranoia, he thought Priscilla's new boyfriend was trying to kill him. Elvis also lost interest in recording new music, much to RCA's dismay. Elvis's live performances suffered as well. He would forget lyrics or deliver them in a slur. Elvis had become so weak at times he would hold on to the mic stand for dear life. By time 1977 came Elvis was over weight, and his health was failing due to heavy drug use. A tell all book written by 3 fired employees made known Elvis's drug use, which made Elvis even more depressed. On August 16, 1977 Elvis Presley passed away in his private bathroom. It's still a hot topic as to how Elvis actually died. It's said he died from a drug overdose, it's also said it was an accidental overdose due to over prescribing, yet another doctor says that it was a sudden and violent heart attack not directly related to the 14 drugs that were found in his system.
