This CD comes from my personal collection. I did not know that it was a bootleg until recently. It's an awesome sounding recording of a phenomenal performance. Just look at the talent on that stage, anymore and it would collapse under the weight. Joshua Redman on sax, Pat Metheny on guitar, Christian McBride on bass rounded out by the rock solid drumming of Billy Higgins. I couldn't think of a better match to the Chic Corea & Gay Burton show I just posted. I hope these 2 recordings help ease you into a nice Sunday Morning.

This is a re-post and upgrade to this post here which was posted in MP3 320kbps. This one also has slightly different information. The original uploader said this recording was from a date in New York City, New York at an undisclosed location. The info on the CD says it was recorded Live In The U.S.A. '94 so that is the info I am going to use for this upgraded re-post. The CD is also a promo only CD sent to radio stations to promote Joshua Redman. It is a Pre-FM Recording actually, so there you go.

Joshua Redman is the son of Jazz Saxophone Legend Dewey Redman. Dewey Redman had played with them all: Keith Jarrett, Charlie Haden, Don Cherry, Ornette Coleman, Paul Motian and Flautist Jane Bunnett to name a few. There was a performance from a band called Fathers And Sons which not only had saxophonists Dewey & Joshua Redman but the father son duo Von & Chico Freeman. That band also had Brad Mehldau piano, and Christian McBride on bass, therefore a bigger connection to these 2 posts. The band had been rounded out by Gregory Hutchinson on drums. 3 songs in 43 minutes, it's short on titles not on outstanding performances. I am really enjoying the fact that a Detroit born and bred Kenny Garrett is playing sax on this one. Chick Corea only plays with the best, knowing that he picked a Detroit musician is a point of pride. I love it when 1 of us makes it out of The D. Detroit has always been a deep ocean of talent with a rich musical history. Oddly enough with with that rich history it's always been a scene that was hard to break out of. A lot of the music that came/comes form Detroit was/is seen as empty of anything but energy. The MC5 seen as a huge influence on Garage Rock, Punk Rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Alt-Rock and Grunge were dismissed in their day. Their are more stories than that but The MC5 are the best known example, also this isn't Jazz talk so I will end this little rant by saying enjoy the music and check out those sax solos!!

Another great Jazz show I downloaded from BigO is on offer for our own Jazz On Sunday Morning. Christian McBride is one of the Greatest Jazz Sidemen Of All Time. He has worked with so many of the World Of Jazz's Greats just soaking up influence and style that when stepping out of the shadows he creates an eclipse. This show is just such an eclipse. With bass, 2 horns (or 1 and 1 woodwind) and drums, this group comes up with some great musical moments. Below is what BigO said about this show.
