Ozric Tentacles are an Synth Driven Instrumental Progressive Rock Band from England. If you haven't heard them they sound kind of like the instrumental parts of early Porcupine Tree. Not that they are a Porcupine Tree clone, just that if you liked that era of PT you may like Ozric Tentacles. Some Prog-Rock Purists would say that Ozric Tentacles are too Heavy Metal sounding to be Progressive Rock. My understanding of Progressive Rock was to push the boundaries, break the rules. For me it always meant a band who's music is always evolving trying new combinations of genres, instruments, etc, but I'm not a purist so who cares, right? So I am including this Ozric Tentacles show in my Salute To Progressive Rock.

Out of print live album by band founded by Detroit Wheels alumni Jim McCarty & John "The Bee" Bandanjek. The Rockets were Rock & Roll music through and through. The bands national debut album had a hit with a cover of Fleetwod Mac's "Oh Well". It was this hit that prompted Fleetwood Mac to bring the song back into their live shows. With music steeped in the traditions of Little Richard & Fats Domino filtered through The Rolling Stones then smoked in a huge Detroit Doobie, everyone expected huge things for The Rockets. There were hits, the band was on RSO the same label as Eric Clapton & The Bee Gees. Everybody loved Jim McCarty's playing, he's the Jimmy in the Jimi Hendrix tune "The Jimi-Jimmy Jam" on the Nine To The  Universe album! He was also known for his guitar work with Cactus. With all that going for them The Rockets came to an end after touring in support of this very live album. They played 2 great shows at Pine Knob Amphitheater in Clarkston, Michigan then they were gone. There were a lot of rumors of certain band members recreational habits being the cause but since I don't know I don't repeat.

When I downloaded this recording from The Traders Den the original uploader encouraged someone to re-track the waves. I trimmed off 1 minute of silence at the end of "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)". I then cut the beginning of the "Drum Solo" off of the end of "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" and placed it in it's proper spot. I also had to do this with "Crossroads", & "Mississippi Queen". I also reduced the volume of Leslie Wests comments because they were much louder than the music. I then added a fade in/out on the first and last tracks. No EQ or noise reduction was used, nor was there any remixing done.

Leslie West went into cardiac arrest on December 21, 2020. He passed away December 23, 2020, Leslie was age 75.

I used Goldwave to convert the source MP4 into a 16 bit wave. I then used Goldwave to adjust some volume issues and edit track marks. No EQ or noise reduction was used. The MP4 had lossy audio so Trader's Little Helper was used to encode the waves to MP3 320kbps.

On tour to promote their first album Eparistera Daimones, Triptykon (Greek for triptych) hits the Wacken Open Air stage. Rather ironic since a headlining slot at Wacken 2006 was part of Celtic Frost's return. That return was called to a halt when founder Thomas Gabriel Fischer left the band. Fischer stated he could no longer work with the members of Celtic Frost, nor bear to use the name anymore. Triptykon's 1st album is the rightful successor to Celtic Frost's Monotheist. It does take a further step down the Experimental Blackened Doom of it's predecessor. Unfortunately this is a short set with 2 tracks being covers. This means you get only 4 tracks representing Melana Chasmata and "The Prolonging" fades early (ironic if you think about it). It is however a soundboard recording from their first World Tour so gotta have it.
