JustDave's Notes:
When I downloaded this from The Traders Den it was 6 files. The songs had not been indexed and the test tone was included. I didn't include the test tone in this file set. I decoded the original flac files then separated the tracks using Goldwave v5.04. I then re-encoded the tracks using Traders Little Helper aligning all sector boundary errors. The show was originally uploaded as being from Sunrise Florida but after discussion on The Traders Den it was determined this was a Pre-FM of the Ypsilanti, Michigan gig.

Ensemble

15 A Love Supreme (7:33) [cut - Alice Coltrane on Wurlitzer]

Total Playing Time: 2hr 10mn 27sc

Personnel:
Alice Coltrane: Wurlitzer organ, harp [07-12, 14-15]
John McLaughlin: guitar [01-03, 14-15]
Carlos Santana: guitar [04-06, 10-15]
(unknown accompanist): the first 6 tracks include female vocals, zither, and harmonium. This could be one person, two, or three. We are guessing one. At track 04 Deborah Santana is introduced though by another name, not found in preliminary research. We believe she is an additional vocalist on tracks 04-06.

Trio (personnel presumed, as they are introduced at the end. However this is not confirmed. Note that Workman played on the original recording of Africa.)

Reggie Workman: bass [09-15]
Michael Shrieve: drums [09-15]

Electric Band:

Armando Peraza: congas [10-15]
Reggie Workman: bass [10-15]
Jules Broussard: saxophones, flute [10-15]
Michael Shrieve: drums [10-15]
Tom Coster: keyboards [10-15]

JustDave's Notes:
This is a raw soundboard with warts and all, there was a bit of work by the team that brought us this rare gem. There is volume fluctuations, hiss, amplifier hum and some other issues. The team that worked the recording did not do a complete remaster more like rough finish construction work. I have left the comments about the source and work already done. I've been listening to this one quite a bit since I downloaded it. I think it's a very enjoyable listen flaws and all. Someone will most likely give it a remaster sooner or later until then we have to enjoy what we have.

Notes:
Light mastering, tagging, circulation and these notes by Tyler RH aka Mr. Completely in 2023. Source material provided via, and research by, Key Man Jesse Jarnow. Extensive and insightful setlist and instrumentation parsing by Jeremy Erwin. Many thanks to both of them.

About The Performance:
- Per the SF Examiner listing, billed as "an evening of spiritual music."
- A fascinating progression of pieces, some of them seemingly unique to this performance.
- We would love any information about the accompanist(s) described above, or any other aspects of the show.
- God Then also appears in the Illuminations sessions
- The two Alice Coltrane solo pieces do not correspond to any composition or existing track we can find. We believe them to be improvisations and have labeled them thus.
- Africa is of course the John Coltrane song of that title.

About The Recording And Mastering Process:
- Provided in a lossless audio format with no information beyond a mildly incorrect date and location. Jesse corrected the date; the SF Examiner listing he found is provided.
- Presumably from the quality of the recording a reel to reel master was made from the soundboard and at least one, possibly a few, analog generations exist between that master and the digital transfer.
- The files provided contained many minor flaws. Due to the historic nature of this file set I have chosen to correct very few of them, using minimally invasive methods, for this initial version. The recording merits and could benefit from professional remastering. So I tried not to do anything that would get in the way of that.
- I joined all the files together using very minor splices and overlaps. No music was edited.
- I fixed the many clipping errors, but did nothing else to the levels.
- The pieces in the first half of the show are introduced by the artists.
- Jeremy and I figured out the rest of them.
- Details of instrumentation were determined by Jeremy. Thanks again for that excellent work.
- The original file set came with the studio sessions for the Illuminations album, which we will circulate as a separate file set. The recordings are at least approximately contemporaneous and together represent a significant addition to the available archival material relating to this era of Alice Coltrane's career. It has been our honor and privilege to work on this historic material.

This is yet another great sounding show from Santana's 1973 tour. We posted another not to long ago that included a newspaper article with a kind of bad review. This one includes another review, this time with a slightly better view of the show. When this one surfaced (and I don't remember when) it was an uncirculated 1973 soundboard.

I love this era of Santana, quite frankly Santana didn't lose me as a listener until "Smooth". That was only slightly so don't hate, I only skip that song. It feels like a very obvious grab for The Charts. Also my daughter, when she was a teen, wore me out on Rob Thomas and Matchbox 20. Sorry just don't care for them, my personal opinion. A lot of fans did abandon Santana at the changes that came with Caravanserai. The out right Jazz on the album wasn't a welcome departure from the Latin Rock of the first three albums. Then some fans turned their backs at the Hard Rock albums like Inner Secrets and Marathon. I've stuck with Santana through all of the changes except for one song so I guess could be a fan.

This is one bad ass performance, for those who love this era of Santana. The band has moved into a very Jazz oriented music mode leaving, for the most part, the Latin Rock behind. The audience response is kind of a little laid back. The local news paper critics (remember those?) all were not impressed. This package must have been put together by Draftervoi (some of you will get the joke) because you get a few of these news articles included with the cover art. Obviously in hind sight the Jazz era of Santana is seen as just another phase of a Great Musicians musical journey...which continues o. If you haven't heard any of the soundboard releases from the Las Vegas Residency you need to seek them out. I have 3 but I do believe they are commercial releases so I can not share them here. Only a one word review needed AWESOME!! So find them.

Our Sunday Morning Jazz offerings for this week start with a classic show from the Carlos Santana Wayne Shorter  collaboration. I know there will be some Jazz Purists who will think this isn't a real Jazz performance. I believe it's a great way to introduce people who wouldn't normally download a Jazz bootleg to the talents of The Legendary Wayne Shorter. 6 Degrees Of Led Zeppelin Post # 16

When Neil Schon was an up & coming guitarist in the California music scene, 2 very gifted guitarists wanted him in their band. Carlos Santana wanted to add a fuller guitar sound to the live shows, plus give himself a guitar player to play off of, to stretch his abilities.

The other guitar player was non other than Eric Clapton who wanted Neil Schon to join his band Derek & The Dominoes. Neil chose to join Santana.

Eric Clapton of course was guitarist for The Yardbirds before Jimmy Page joined the band.

The Santana story comes full circle in Mountain View California, as Carlos calls in some old friends to celebrate 20 years of Santana music. Former members meld with the 1986 line-up to perform songs from the bands rich back catalog. If you are any kind of Santana fan I highly recommend this show for your collection. The final jam session that is CD3 is worth the download alone, yet CD's 1 & 2 are comprised of performances from the 1986 line-up that almost seems like a statement to the former members that this is Santana now. All most 3 hours of music, with a line-up that includes Buddy Miles, Michael Shrieve, Gregg Rolie, Neil Schon, Alexander J. Ligertwood, and Carlos Santana!

While the Santana band was touring through Europe in 1978 the Devadip Orchestra was the opening act for every gig. The Devadip Orchestra focused on Carlos Santana's solo material released under his Buddist name Devadip Carlos Santana. Carlos became a Buddhist in 1971 after John McLaughlin introduced him to guru Sri Chinmoy he would remain a follower until 1982.

This is an all instrumental set and sounds pretty good although the tape does show a little age.

Two days, four amazing shows, all in fine soundboard quality recordings. Add to that some nice custom cover art and this is one great package that no Santana fan should be without. I saw a comic recently doing a small routine about Carlos Santana. He called him the King Of Sustain. You could get up, use the restroom, purchase another beer, walk back to your chair and Carlos is still holding the same note! I got to admit the man can hold a note for what seems an impossibly long time.

This is a large file set so it is divided into 4 parts all parts unzip independently
