For Your Sunday Morning Jazz Pleasure!
McCoy Tyner is a Jazz Legend and if you only want one bootleg from his Quintet this is the one. It's a very clear recording that has no flaws that should be noted (in my opinion). The band is in great form, tight and well rehearsed. You can just sit back and listen to a fabulous flawless performance.
My Sunday Morning Jazz posts started out because of BigO. They started posting Jazz shows on Sunday morning calling it Jazz On Sunday I think. So yeah like anybody will do with someone else's good idea, I stole it. I really enjoyed downloading their Jazz On Sunday posts. It was a great way to sit and enjoy my coffee in the morning. At the time I started Sunday was my only day off work. I couldn't sleep in on Sunday like Rosebud could so I would make coffee and sit in the living room or weather permitting my back porch and listen to the newest Jazz show I had. Even though I have been retired for a five years I still get up at 5AM.
So don't hold the stolen idea against me especially now that BiO is no more...Let's just say I'm carrying forward the tradition. Enjoy my Friends!!!

justdave's notes:
I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I then used Goldwave to edit some track marks. I also tried to even the volume some as it fluctuated quite a bit. No EQ or Noise Reduction was used. No remastering or remixing was done. The DVD had lossy audio so I encoded the waves to MP3 320kbps using Trader's Little Helper.
Okay how to explain the Norwegian band Shining to the uninitiated. First off they are not the Black Metal band Shining from Sweden. They are a band that really likes to experiment with many different musical genres in on song. The band combines elements of Industrial Metal, Extreme Metal, Drone, Noise, and Free Jazz plus more. If you are studying music in school this is a definite must listen (lol). The vocals are delivered in screams and growls like Industrial and Extreme Metal music. The guitars are loud and heavily distorted the drums pounding. The rhythms and time signatures are all over the spectrum, don't look for a 4/4 count (lol). When band leader Jørgen Munkeby drops his guitar & grabs his saxophone all bets are off. The music seems to hang right on the point of going off the rails. If you like the Improvisations of King Crimson, the Mwandishi era of Herbie Hancock, The Nels Cline Singers, and Industrial Metal, combine that with Boris and I still haven't explained it right...you have to check it out for yourself...but to me it was no surprise that their Blackjazz album has a cover of "21st Century Schizoid Man".

I almost did a happy dance when I obtained this recording, seriously! I am a huge Foghat fan. I have worn out untold numbers of 8-track tapes, cassettes & vinyl copies of all Foghat releases since seeing them on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert.
A point of agreement between Me, my close Metal Head Friends & my close non-Metal Head Friends (I do have those lol!!) are copies of Foghat Live, Fool For The City, Night Shift and Stone Blue. When I played a Foghat Mix-Disc I made for my son Spider he says to me "These guys are one of the old school bands that made you guys want to play faster aren't they..listen to the double bass drums Dad! That's awesome shit" end quote. I replied "It now seems like a natural step from Foghat to Anvil but a lot of my friends didn't see it that way back in the early days of the Heavy Metal scene".
Anyway this is yet another great Mike Millard Master Recording. A little less audience noise in this one compared to the Joe Walsh recording. Enjoy Friends!!

Another great Mike Millard recording for your listening pleasure. This time from my favorite member of The Eagles (sorry I was a Joe Walsh fan before I was an Eagles fan). My first time hearing Joe Walsh was when a girl brought the 45 single for "Rocky Mountain Way" to school. We were in elementary school and we could bring in records to play during class free time and for recess if we stayed inside. I remember I bought my own copy soon after. My first time hearing The Eagles was when I was still in elementary school and heard "New Kid In Town" on the radio during the bus ride home. I know Joe Walsh was in the band a short time compared to the rest of the band, my favorite of the Joe Walsh-less era is of course Glenn Frey, what a great songwriter!
This Millard recording is as great as all the rest. The audience is a little chatty but not too bad. The listening experience is not affected by audience so. enjoy!!!

How do I describe King Woman to you and make you curious enough to want to check them out. I could quote you the little blurb on the CD...King Woman is an experimental musical vehicle for the Performance Artist Kristina Esfandiari featuring elements of Doom Metal and Shoegaze with raw vocal emotion...For fans of Jarbo era Swans, EARTH, Big Brave, SunnO))) and Boris...I mean that gets us in the ballpark (since I like all them it was an easy sell).
I could also describe it to you like I tried to with Spider & Rosebud. "There are long drawn out throbbing guitar & bass riffs, powerful drums all while Kristina Esfandiari bares here soul in a mournful croon. The music always builds in power as the performance progresses akin Post Rock/Metal as Kristina's vocals increase in emotion akin to Old School Gospel/Soul Singers." In the end it's better to just let you check the music out for yourself. I have picked up all 3 of the bands available releases and their 2017 release Created In The Image Of Suffering is my latest CD obsession.

Dickie Peterson died October 12, 2009 from liver cancer caused by prostate cancer that had metastasized, he was 63.
Paul Whaley died from heart failure January 28, 2019, he was 72.
Blue Cheer gets brought into the conversation about the Roots Of Heavy Metal about as much as The MC5 does, frequently but not quite enough. They both also get thrown into the mix when discussing Proto-Punk and Proto-Grunge. Dickie Peterson must be looking down from Heavy Metal Heaven with a big grin. Can you imagine Dickie Peterson and Paul Whaley jamming with The MC5 and Motörhead in Heavy Metal Heaven? Maybe that's why clouds turn black....
This show came to me in flac form but was tested as 100% MP3 based so I only shared it in MP3 320kbps...sorry.

By now a lot of you who frequent The New JDP know who Mike Millard is and how good his audience recordings are. If it has the Mallard name on it you know a very enjoyable listening experience is inside! This Styx show is no exception to that rule. It sounds awesome! The instruments and vocals are clear and the audience noise is never in the way of the music. Styx fans grab this full length Grand Illusion Show for your collection.

Amorphis is one of my favorite bands. I own every release and have loved every twist and turn their music has made in their Progressive Heavy Metal journey. I've been a fan since Amorphis released the debut EP Privilege Of Evil. Starting off as a very raw Death Metal band, Amorphis set out on a musical course that would see them evolving with every release. With their first full length Amorphis added elements of Finish Folk Music, Progressive Rock, Doom Metal and Psychedelia to their sound. The album also featured lyrics based on the Finnish Epic The Kalevala. This lyrical style would continue through out there career.
At one point the band dropped the Death Metal elements and went full on Prog-Metal (with some great saxophone on the LP Am Universum). At another they adopted an Alternative Metal sound. After Lead Vocalist Pasi Koskinen left the band and new vocalist Tomi Joutsen took over the Death Metal elements returned. The bands sound now is an amalgam of every style they used in the past and more. This show is a perfect place to start if you never heard Amorphis. The bands name is perfect they always are shifting which has earned them a very loyal fan base. Enjoy!!
