Look I promised you some great stuff including some rare Master Tapes. This recording from The MC5's guitarist, vocalist, song writer Wayne Kramer I haven't seen anywhere but The Trader's Den. I also have no idea how many Wayne Kramer or MC5 related soundboards are out there but I venture to say they are pretty rare. Especially since Wayne Kramer released a huge box set of MC5 material including all the John Sinclare recorded soundboards.

This recording is so sweet sounding, so damn powerful that you would swear it was a commercially released live album. There is great stereo separation and effects. The power of The Street Walking Cheetahs double bass player line up shines through with out making mud of the mix. The uploader says it was recorded straight to disc. My guess is they used something like a rack mounted VocoPro CDR Recorder (I have one). They record so damn nice and in 24bit as well. The only draw back is the button to make tracks as you record actually stops the recording for 3 seconds. So you lose some of the stuff you were recording. This is what I think caused the cut before "Junkie Romance". The notes do say that the Master Discs were untracked so maybe. This is a Diamond of a Recording Do Not Pass Up This True Testimonial!! I used DVD Audio Extractor to rip the audio waves. I the used Goldwave to raise the volume and re-edit some track marks. No EQ, or noise reduction was needed. Since the DVD had lossy audio I encoded the waves to MP3 320kbps wih Traders Little Helper.

The MC5 live at the Kulttuuralo, Helsinki, Finland, on 17 November 1972. Presumably recorded for Finnish TV (in black and white, which seems odd, as colour TV was introduced in the UK in the late 1960s, and it would be surprising if northern Europe was far behind), there is a time counter at the bottom of the screen throughout - the picture is, well, it looks like old TV footage! The sound is very good. This European tour came at near the end of the road for the band, which would perform its last show a few weeks later at the Grande Ballroom, site of their triumphant shows recorded for the incandescent "Kick out the Jams" album in 1968 - but the last show, on New Year's Eve 1972, was a dispirited affair to a very small crowd, with one of the band leaving well before the end to go off and get a fix. Anyway, back to this one. After touring and recording in Europe a few times that year with indifferent success, two of the band baulked at yet another trip, leaving only Fred "Sonic" Smith and Wayne Kramer to keep the flag flying (bass player Michael Davis had been sacked earlier). Dave Hughes had joined the band on a semi-permanent basis on bass, and Jay Scharma joined the tour on drums - as Hughes later put it (in the "Testimonial" documentary), "it was the MC2, plus one, plus one". Wayne Kramer reminisced in the same documentary that these shows were the pits, with having to sing lead vocals in Rob Tyner's absence, and not even knowing some of the words, having never sung lead vocals before. The show plods early on, but it does pick up for the last two or three songs. But pro-shot MC5 footage being almost as rare as rocking-horse shit, it's hard to pass up on something like this...

The MC5 were the 60's social revolution incarnate. Their ideal of Rock and Roll, Drugs, and F@%*ing in the streets was their lifestyle. The only band to actually perform at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The MC5 played for over eight hours straight; of the other scheduled performers, Kramer stated in Get Up, Stand Up that only Neil Young actually arrived, though due to the chaos at the convention, Young didn't perform. Dennis Thompson asserted years later that "Country Joe" McDonald (Country Joe and the Fish) was also present at the scene. The MC5 broke up in 1973. This recording went unbroadcast until 2009.

Not to long after these recordings Dennis Thompson and Rob Tyner would leave the 5.

This is a fantastic show from some of Detroit Music scene royalty. 98.7 WLLZ-FM gathered together a line-up of 1960's & 70's greats backed by a band of 1980's biggest in the scene. This concert was for a great cause, raising funds for Detroit's Viet Nam Veterans. So this is an early tribute to our veterans (The USA holiday honoring out veterans, Veteran's Day is in 4 days). This is also another in a series of posts I have been making in tribute to Michigan Music. I was actually at this show with some of my friends screaming my self horse when Rob Tyner came out to rip through 3 MC5 classics. I was then knocked to the floor to see 2 members of the legendary Frost walk onto the stage. I mean Scott Morgan of The Rationals opened the show and it just didn't stop! I am so glad I obtained a copy of this recording and I highly recommend it to everyone!
