Rick Derringer kicking out the jams at the famous Bottom Line in New York City. This is the late show of a 2 show night with Rick and the band going on at midnight. Rick plays a great set including The McCoys "Hang On Sloopy", Jerry Lee Lewis' "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" and an extended guitar solo in the middle of "Rock And Roll Hootchie Coo". This is a nce sounding show, from what seems to be a very low generation tape.

Black Sabbath is the main influence of the Stoner Metal genre. When Sabbath first emerged on the music scene critics dubbed them "Downer Rock". This was because they believed the majority of Black Sabbath's audience to be on downer drug. Black Sabbath also gave Heavy Metal Weed Heads their anthem in "Sweet Leaf", the bands love song to marijuana. So it's almost mandatory to have a little Sabbath music for 4-20. This boot is considered to be one of the best sounding Ozzy & Sabbath reunion shows.

The New JDP's salute to 4-20 rolls on (pun intended) with the ultimate Stoner band Pink Floyd. Pink Floyed's music has always been considered drug music, although not all Pink Floyd listeners take drugs (so no hate comments please). This soundboard recording is nice and clear letting you enjoy the nuances of Pink Floyd's music. The comments on the Pink Floyd database suggest that this is one of the cleanest sounding from this show. Also it says that this is one of the more complete sources having both encores included.

This is a great performance from early in the career of Chicago. The band shortened there name from Chicago Transit Authority to Chicago when the actual city of Chicago's transit authority threatened to sue the band. The bands self titled debut album would earn platinum status by 1970 on the strength of hit singles  "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?", "Beginnings", "Questions 67 and 68", and "I'm a Man".

Queensrÿche on the road promoting Here In The Now Frontier. The album was a departure from Queensryche's Progressive Metal towards more of a stripped down Grunge kind of feel. Some fans accepted the musical change while others stayed away. Grunge had turned the tide on the Heavy Metal bands who were at one time dominating the commercial music scene. This would be Queensrÿche's last tour with the original line-up as founding guitarist Chris DeGarmo would depart after tours end. The tour was actually cancelled after a few months when Geoff Tate fell ill, Degarmo's departure made sure no make up dates were done. In a lot of fans eyes a suitable replacement for Degarmo has never been found.

4-20 is coming up so here at Just Dave's Place we will be bringing a selection of bootlegs from bands that are considered to Stoner Bands. Our first offering is from Doom/Stoner Doom legends Trouble. This recording comes from the bands tour in support of the Trouble LP. The self titled album was the bands fourth and there major label debut. The band had signed to Def American, and with the new label came new psychedelic elements into the music. Although fans accepted the new direction, Trouble never attained major label success. Def American released them after just 2 albums. The band has continued sporadically in the Metal Underground in one form or another. The current version of the band is without founding vocalist Eric Wagner.

This is a very nice sounding recording of yet another awesome performance from John McLaughlin. My introduction to John McLaughlin came through his work with Carlos Santana on the Love Devotion & Surrender album. From there I sought out his work with Mahavishnu Orchestra & solo works. The man is revered by guitar players in all walks of music from Metal to Jazz, this hour long festival performance is a great example of why. From the opening tribute to Coltrane to the 15 minute jam on "My Favorite Things" McLaughlin and his cohorts are on fire. The music flows like water, with every shift in tempo.
