One of my favorite concert memories was going to the Yes Union show at The Palace Of Auburn Hills. There was 9 of us that went in one van to make transportation easier. We all had scattered seats having bought them late. Only 2 of us sat together, Me and my great friend Gypsy Dan. The Gypsy and I have known each other a long time, bonding on our mutual love of all things Rock n Roll and marijuana!! We worked together in a production company called Red Eye Rock Productions that ran a weekly Red Eye Rock Fest in a big field in Northern Auburn Hills. He was also my weed man for decades...We sat together and were about 5 rows back from the rotating stage. Dan bought a program which I used to roll some really big joints. We lit one up just as a girl in front of us lit a cigarette. That's when we noticed an usher was only 2 rows behind us. The usher waled forward and told the girl to put her cigarette out. Dan and I kept smoking, she didn't say anything. We lit up another around the 3rd song and this girl in front of us lit another cigarette. The usher leaned over my shoulder while I had the program open in my lap with weed on it, tapped the girl and said "Next time I see you you will have to go stand in the back" then walked away. This girl then turned around and said to Dan and I "What the hell?" Dan and I just lit another doobie and offered her a hit. We never got bothered.....

- raw transfer of analog master tape
- some channel phasing beginning of track 01
- bass is thin but audible through out recording mostly highs to low mids
- some popping during track 03
- someone rubs the mic felt at 4:04 track 04 no music affected
- track 04 mic cuts out at 4:50 / cuts back in 5:01 no music affected
- pop sound at :14 of track 08 no music affected
- track 08 thump at 7:09 pop at 7:14 no music affected
- track 12 sounds like mic felt being rubbed 9:23 to 9:35
- transition between track 12 and track 13 is a little rough
- track 14 mic cuts out and back in at 10:56

Now this transfer of Tapehead2's Analog Master via the Krw_co crew just popped up at the Trader's Den about a week ago. It's a raw transfer that has it's faults which I have noted the worst of. Now it also has it's advantages too. I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to this recording over and over since I downloaded it. So much so that my son Spider asked me to retire it for a while. I was being a little annoying, stopping and starting so I could catalog some blemish in the recording. Don't let the list of faults keep you from downloading most do not affect any music. It really is a nice listen! I'm sure someone will remaster this sooner or later, it's a great start, a little EQ and manual noise removal and this could be polished into a gem.

This WMMS Broadcast Master recording is not really rare either but it is the lesser posted of the 1978 tour. I really love this show because it was a simulcast so it's warts and all. It's also a complete concert, some FM broadcasts are edited prerecorded affairs. The best performances picked and bad ones left out all that crap. As for the performance, these guys don't sound like a band that will be going it's separate ways after the tour.

This time Rosebud picked our post for the Salute To Progressive Rock Bands Series. This is what she had to say about it....

Dave took me to my first Yes show about 2 years after we met. It was a show that focused more on the Radio hits I knew like "Owner Of A Lonely Heart", "Long Distance Runaround" etc. Unfortunately for some reason the sound was off in the theater balcony. You could barely hear and people kept shushing each other. The Next time we saw them was at Pine Knob Amphitheater which is a larger venue. We had like 8th row seats (Dave pulled some strings to get). They opened with a song I never heard before. When they announced the next song Dave said  something like "....Yes! Tales" lit a joint and passed it to me. Then said "You're most likely to hear the more Proggy side tonight". He was right they were awesome, I recognized "Roundabout" that was it LOL! On this recording there's a little hum sometimes from amplifiers but the band plays so well and it's not real noticeable when they play.
