DVD was downloaded from the web. I ripped the waves with DVD Audio Extractor. I then used Goldwave to raise and even out the volume of tracks as much as possible, and index tracks. I then had to remove gaps in the tracks themselves. I had to remove it seemed at least 6 gaps per track. Once the gaps were removed and the track spliced back together it seems as if there was no loss of music. The DVD had lossy audio so I encoded the waves to MP3 320 using Trader's Little Helper.

Another mutual love of Rosebud & I. We have been to every Chicago concert at Pine Knob Amphitheater since our first summer together. This is her 2nd Rosebud Pick for 2022 and it's an awesome one too. I almost gave this audio rip the title of "A Night Of Hits With Peter Cetera". I listed all the chart positions for each song. Wow!! The man has had many hits over the span of his career. Peter Cetera soundboards (let alone bootlegs) are a little rare so if you are a Chicago fan or just a Peter Cetera fan you have to have this show!!

This one is a classic, it's been in trading circles for a while, if you don't have a copy of it yet you should. This is a great performance from a band it seems was tailor made for Holiday music. Chicago's Christmas album and this show both get heavy rotation for the Holidays at Just Dave's Place every year and for me has become as big a part of Christmas as Elvis, Bing Crosby and egg nog (got to have egg nog!).

This is a new encoding of an Original 2 Vinyl LP Broadcast Record Set in my personal collection. I had encoded this before but it was in an edited form. There were skips in some areas that were left of the last time which was basically the voice overs and commercials. Being an archivist as well as a collector I like getting the commercials too. They have been indexed separately so you can omit them if you want.

This is also a sonic upgrade as I have upgraded my equipment and techniques. The recording was made on a Vocopro CDR-1000PRO professional CD-r recorder. It's musician road case rack mount rated. It records in 24bit/44,1khz creating a high quality CD-r. It's meant for musicians to record their gigs and rehearsals. After the recordings were ripped I used Goldwave v.6.83 (no AI plugins) to manually remove vinyl pops and clicks from the waves before encoding them. I spent a lot of time working on this one trying to obtain the best quality I could. Hope everyone enjoys it!!

In Memory of Terry Kath 12/31/1946 - 01/23/1978

Chicago was never the same after the death of Terry Kath at age 31, by an accidental self inflicted gun shot wound to the head on January 23, 1978. Terry was the guiding light and Rock & Roll Soul of the band. Although the band experimented with many different styles of music, there was always a Rock & Roll base. After Terry Kath died Peter Cetera stepped up as lead song writer. The band was forever chasing the Top 40 Charts after that. Disco, AOR and 1980's ballads crushed even the diehards when it came to album sales. Chicago however has enjoyed a very strong live career. When I last saw them about 10 or 15 years ago they were still a solid live band, never a bad show in the 10 shows of there's I saw.

Now there are only 3 remaining founding members, Robert Lamm keyboards & vocals, Lee Loughnane, trumpet, James Pankow, trombone.

This really nice sounding recording is said to come from the personal collection of Hank Steiger, Terry Kath's guitar tech. The only real flaw is that "Feelin' Stronger Everyday" gets cut off after less than 2 minutes. The band is fired up with some great jamming on both "A Hit By Varese" and "Mongonucleosis". "Policeman" makes an appearance in the set before it's actually released on an album (the next album actually).

The flac file set is rather large so it's been divided into 2 parts. Each part opens separately.

Another great show from Rosebud's Chicago collection. Rosebud, like many others, knew of Chicago because of their Radio Hits & MTV videos when I met her. After we married and my music collection moved in (she freaked out at the size of it) she learned of the Immortal Terry Kath . We have seen Chicago in concert every summer since then at Pine Knob Amphitheater. On the date of their 30th straight year appearing at Pine Knob they issued special shirts for the event. They also played one of the longest sets I have ever caught them play. But I digress, The Terry Kath era of Chicago, in my opinion, is the best the band sounded. If you own Chicago Transit Authority re-listen to the Terry Kath penned song "Introduction". Terry Kath's soulful voice and great guitar playing are just the half of it. Each player in the band is given a small solo section to literally introduce you to the players. The awesome thing about these solos, Terry Kath wrote the too! He wrote each soloists solo specifically to show off each players talent. In the early days of Chicago, Peter Cetera has often said, the members would always play to each other's talents. If Robert Lamm wrote a song but thought Peter Cetera would sing it better it was done so. That's why Peter Cetera sings Robert Lamm's "25 Or 6 To 4" or Terry Kath sings James Pankow's "Colour My World". That's why a lot of Chicago fans feel the first 9 albums are the best.

The medley of "I'm A Man/25 Or 6 To 4/Introduction" is not from the Toronto Rock 'n' Roll Revival. To me it sounds like it was constructed by the label from performances on this CD. Others think it is from another performance from the same era.

I bought this for Rosebud (Chicago is one band Rosebud & I have seen every year since we got together 22 years ago) one day while I was out shopping for music. I actually bought this from an FYE for 4 dollars U.S. It's one of those grey area bootlegs. It's been around for so long it's more or less accepted as a commercial release. There have been numerous versions of this recording released over the years. The albums & CDs always say it was leased from some other company that's never been heard of before. Because of this these semi-legal bootlegs could end up in any chain stores cheap CD bin.

Draftervoi's notes:
Chicago SuperGroups In Concert was the first "SuperGroups" syndicated broadcast on May 12, 1979.  The show was pressed on three LPs, but only five sides had music.  The sixth side is blank.  The cue sheet lists the show as a production of American Broadcasting Companies.  There's an ad in Billboard on Aug. 18, 1979 that says 300 ABC stations carried the show, so that may be a good guess as to how many copies of this show were pressed.

The Chicago disc labels are numbered with the catalog number OCC 101.  The next SuperGroups show I've identified is Foreigner, which used the code OCC and either 201 or 203 (I've seen both listed, so consider that number unconfirmed). The Foreigner show was identified as broadcast on May 19, 1979 but is not mentioned in the Billboard ad...

...Which says the next show in the series was the Moody Blues.  With the Moody Blues show, the series used a different code:  The Moody Blues were SGC 101, followed by the Allman Brothers SGC 102, Peter Frampton SGC 103, the Cars SGC 104, Blondie SGC 105, Cheap Trick SGC 106, Journey SGC 107 and Alice Cooper SGC 108. 

The earliest of these shows were distributed in boxes, with similar cover designs.  The background of each box was a solid color covered in a pattern of dots, with the artist's name on the front and the show credits on the back.  The cue sheets were printed on premium paper, and the discs housed in plastic-lined disc sleeves.  Occasionally they "themed" the color of the box: The Moody Blues box is blue, and Blondie is yellow.

The original SuperGroups format had live concerts interspersed with short interviews, and no commercials.  A "SuperGroups Theme Song" played at the beginning and end of the show.   At least two of the shows (Foreigner and Alice Cooper) combined previously unreleased live material with several "faked" tracks from studio albums overdubbed with audience noise.

Sometime in 1980 they dropped the premium presentation (boxes, cue sheets, disc liners) and added prerecorded commercials.  Disc labels switched to a solid color - I've seen red, yellow, and silver used, and the numbering system was discontinued. Some of these are listed as "produced by D.I.R. Broadcasting Corp. for Super Groups In Concert" but also carry the ABC name. Spelling of the shows name often shifts from "SuperGroups" to "Super Groups." There was also a series using the Super Groups name called "A Night On The Road," produced by G.K. Productions with ABC.

This version was digitized from the original syndicated radio discs and declicked in Audacity in September 2014.  Included are 300 dpi scans of the front and back cover, a disc label, and all four pages of the cue sheet.  Flac files of wavs. The only thing I edited out was the 700 Hz test tone.

There's another version circulating with "Mongonucleosis" and "Got To Get You Into My Life" but without "I Just Want To Be Free."  I haven't heard it, so I don't know if was also a SuperGroups show, an original over-the-air broadcast, syndicated by a different company...or perhaps two versions of the show were produced.

This is a great performance from early in the career of Chicago. The band shortened there name from Chicago Transit Authority to Chicago when the actual city of Chicago's transit authority threatened to sue the band. The bands self titled debut album would earn platinum status by 1970 on the strength of hit singles  "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?", "Beginnings", "Questions 67 and 68", and "I'm a Man".

Pre-FM vinyl 2 record set that I bought in a used record store, for $5.00, the DJ cue sheet was missing. Each disc was treated with Pfan-Stat No. SA-14, and the Discwasher Zerostat Positive Ion Gun prior to play. They where played on a Sony PS-LX300H turntable to a Sony RCD-W500C CD Recorder using the Super Bit Mapping function. The resulting CD-R was ripped with Exact Audio Copy. The waves were imported to Goldwave V.5.04 for pop/click fix, track separation, and fade in out as needed.I only use  1 passive run of Goldwaves pop/click fix, since aggressive noise reduction can impare sound quality.  The waves were then converted to flac level 8 with Traders Little Helper aligning all sector boundaries.

I removed all the commercials. I faded in on the intro voice over, and faded out on the end credits due to skips in the record. I included a scan of the label for record one side one.

A great show with all the live favorites and a cover of The Spencer Davis Group's "Gimme Some Lovin" which Chicago has never recorded. There are a few vinyl pops but not enough to take away from your listening pleasure, so enjoy !

Nice sounding all too short recording from Chicago's tour to promote Chicago XI. No songs from Chicago XI actually made the cut on this DVD but you do get some great performances here, including Lee Loughnane taking the lead vocal on "You Are On My Mind". A nice addition to any collection.
