Progressive Rock Supergroup Trans-Siberian Orchestra has made a career of Christmas. 4 of their 6 CD's are Christmas themed concept albums. The band crisscrosses the country every Holiday season entertaining thousands of families. Their music has become synonymous with Christmas, in such demand that they need 2 complete touring line ups to cover all the concert bookings, one for the east coast another for the west. The band has actually eclipsed the day jobs of the band members. Members of both Savatage, and Testament have graced the TSO stage and studio releases.

I Used Goldwave to convert the MP4 into a 16 bit wave form. I then used Goldwave to edit track marks, raise the volume & add fade in/fade out at the beginning/end of the show. No EQ or noise reduction was used. The lossy waves were then encoded to MP3 320kbps using Traders Little Helper, aligning any sector boundary errors.

Just 4 songs but it's a Fight For The Rock era soundboard recording.

This Show Is For Our Friend Bud_e_luv_bomb For Putting Me On The Trail Of An Edge Of Thorns Era FM Broadcast From Detroit.

I introduced Rosebud to Savatage, I am a huge fan and yes I own every release on vinyl & CD. I have everything from The Avatar Demos to every Trans-Siberian Orchestra release. I have the original Combat label copies of Sirens and The Dungeons Are Calling. I had to "special order" them through Sam's Jams, a huge record store in Ferndale at Woodward & 9 Mile Road. The Mile Roads were named for how many miles they were from downtown Detroit. Like I said Sam's Jams was a huge record store. The original building is now converted to a strip mall with 15 smaller stores in it. If they didn't have it the world order it. They also would carry releases any and every local band that scraped enough money together to record. Damn I miss that place.

Anyway Rosebud fell in love with Savatage. She prefers the Zachary Stevens era to the early Power Metal of Jon Oliva. Edge Of Thorns was the first album without founding member Jon Oliva. Jon had left the band to focus on his band Doctor Butcher. Jon hand picked Zachary for his replacement. Jon also co-wrote every song on Edge Of Thorns. The music continued it's evolution to Progressive Metal. Zack's voice is deeper, more dramatic and soulful, fitting the dramatic music. So any Tribute To Rosebud's Favorite Singers needs to have Zachary Stevens represented.

Edge Of Thorns would be the final album with Chris Oliva on guitar. 2 months after this show Chris Oliva and his wife Dawn were hit head on by a drunk driver who crossed over the in their lane. Chris was killed instantly, he was 30. Dawn recovered from her injuries, but passed away in 2005. The band continued, the brother's had made a pact if one dies, the band carries on. The music changed, they still made great albums but Chris Oliva's guitar is missed. This fabulous show, though too short, is a perfect example of Savatage live. A must have!!!

Ah, I love this period of Savatage. It was just as the bands Progressive Metal leanings started to come into their song writing. The Gutter Ballet is one of my favorite albums. So much passion was put into the lyrics, and performances. The band then started it's eventual morphing into Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I have been a fan of Savatage since the very early days when I received a copy of the Avatar demo in the mail. This was back in the day of snail mail tape trading. I was privileged enough to have seen them a few times, before the death of Chris Oliva at Harpo's in Detroit, Michigan. A small, dirty relic of a theater from the Punch & Judy Days that became a Heavy Metal Hole In The Wall for decades.

Great but all too short recording from Savatage on The Wake of Magellan Tour. This audio comes from a bootleg DVD that is the only know pro shot footage of that tour. It might be short but this performance is a great representation of what Savatage was like live in the 1990's. The transformation into Trans-Siberian Orchestra is almost complete. The large arraignments and vocal cannon are all in place, the only thing missing is the orchestra. So fans of Trans-Siberian Orchestra who haven't actually heard Savatage should definitely check this one out.

This is one bad ass performance from Savatage as they promote their Gutter Ballet release. The album was a turning point for the band, as Jon Oliva was steering the band toward a more theatrical style of music. This release actually was the first step toward the band morphing into Trans-Siberian Orchestra. As the arraignments got bigger another guitarist/keyboardist was needed so Chris Caffery was recruited for the job. He had been touring with the band before hand but was kept off stage, for The Gutter Ballet Tour Chris became a full member of the band. Chris would bounce in and out of the band a couple times but has been a permanent member since 1995. Jon Oliva would actually leave the band in 1992 to focus on the band Doctor Butcher and work on a Broadway musical. Zachary Stevens would be named as Jon's replacement. Sadly Chris Oliva was killed on October 17, 1993 in an auto accident when a drunk driver struck Chris's car head on, he was only 30.
