Updated info!! Please read all who already downloaded. Thanks to our friend SteVe my questions about the songs in the 1969 set list have been answered. The recording is actually from January 24, 1970 not January 24, 1969. This is just one of the reasons I think I have the best visitors & friends a blog like this can have. The help in figuring out when I make a mistake. I still wonder why The Allman Brothers Band was playing at a venue the size of The Whiskey A-Go-Go. Was it some kind of showcase gig? Was it a prestige thing like playing The Bottom Line in New York City? I remember reading an issue of Rolling Stone when I was a school kid (my Mom made sure I had a subscription from the age of 10 or 11 till I moved out of the house) about Bruce Springsteen playing The Bottom Line and I laughed because the place was way too small for the ticket demand. I figure it would be the same for The Allman Brothers Band playing at a venue as small as The Whiskey.

I have always loved "Dreams", the lyrical theme and the kind of haunted feel of Gregg's vocal delivery. It could easily be called one of my favorite Allman Brothers songs. That being said I have to say I absolutely love the Molly Hatchet version. They didn't just cover it, they made it reflect their own musical dreams. The vocal deliveries of the 2 differing versions really makes the feel of the entire song. Gregg Allman seems to channel the haunted feeling of a man far beyond his young years at the time he recorded the original. Molly Hatchet lead vocalist Danny Joe Brown's delivery is that of a young man not yet bent by the odds against his dreams fruition. One summons a character devoid of hope almost ready to pack it in. The other summons the image of a young man, fist tightly clenched saying not today damn it. The song itself was written with so much passion built in it every rendition is bound to pull you in somehow.

This one should keep everybody entertained through their hump day.

This recording is huge on a few levels. Just in shear size of the file set, the length of the show, the STAR POWER! I mean it runs from 7:30 PM to 4:55 AM with headline length sets from The Allman Brothers, Southside Johnny, and Dave Edmunds. With the rest of the performers playing opening act length sets (around a half hour each). From comments made by one of the DJs it comes out part of the show length was due to The Allmans insisting on using their own soundman and equipment. The rest of the bands used the promoters rented equipment and the house soundman.

The show starts off with a great set by The Edgar Winter Group followed by a blistering 2 hour set from The Allman Brothers Band. At the end of the show one of the DJs comment that Steve Forbert just showed up at the theater so they gave him an acoustic guitar then threw him on stage (he sounds like he's enjoying it) as the roadies changed the stage equipment (He got the Richie Havens treatment...Richie wasn't scheduled at Woodstock). His nice Folkie set settles the crowd down to only be lit on fire again by Gary "US" Bonds. Gary "US" Bonds, who Rocked the 1950s with his #1 Hit "Quarter to Three", made his come back in the 1980s after Steven Van Zandt & Bruce Springsteen produced 2 LPs for the Legend. Bruce even wrote a Top 10 Single for his hero and inspiration called "This Little Girl". This fan thought it was a perfect fit (like Patti Smith singing "Because The Night"). Dave Edmunds must of been in Heaven sharing a stage with Gary "US" Bonds. His brand of Rock & Roll just drips with 1950s influences. Jack Bruce is one of my musical heroes. Cream's Disraeli Gears & Wheels of Fire were huge influences on me wanting to play Heavy Music. "Sunshine of Your Love" was one of the songs I sang to audition for my first professional band (paying gigs and all!). Jack kicks ass here playing his Classic R & B/Jazz/Blues Rock that made him the Rock Icon his is! Finish that night off with an hour of Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes high powered horn driven, dance floor filling Rhythm & Blues. Now try dragging yourself home at 5:00 AM after all that Rock & Roll!!

This set is HUGE so it has been divided into sections to make downloading a little easier. All parts can open separately. They are inter changeable too, so you can down load one of each at a time.

For those who already downloaded the show I have uploaded the news articles by themselves
