Here's The New Stuff

  Okay it's been a while since I did one of these things so I guess this is the latest news from The New JDP.

First on our minds is the loss of Jazz Keyboard & Piano Legend Chick Corea. We lost Chick on February 9, 2021 at the age of 79 to cancer. As you all know Chick is one of my all time favorite Jazz keyboardists, along with Keith Jarrett and Herbie Hancock. In tribute to Chick we have a FM recording with Jazz Fusion Greats Return To Forever from 1975. It's only 3 songs but a little over an hour of music from the Classic line-up with Chick, Al Di Meola, Stanley Clarke & Lenny White.

We round out our Jazz uploads this week with shows from site favorite saxophonist Joe Lovano from 2019 and The Modern Jazz Quartet from 1966

We have some rare recordings for you again this time around. We are glad to announce we are one of the first blogs to feature a newly surfaced soundboard recording from the Funk Band War. This 1986 soundboard from Rockefeller's included both the early & late shows for over 3 hours of great music.

Another rarity we have for you is another set of BBC Recordings from a not so well known British Rock Band, The Keef Hartley Band. The Keef Hartley Band, like Toe Fat (who's BBC Tapes we brought you last posting) is known more for having future Uriah Heep bassist Gary Thain in their ranks.

We end Rosebud's Tribute To Her Favorite Singers with the second in our new series The Roots Of Heavy Metal And Hard Rock and the next in a line of out of print live albums, Motorhead's King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents. It's out of print and considered by Lemmy to be an unofficial release.

As I said the Motorhead is 2nd in our series The Roots Of Hard Rock & Heavy Metal. The first was the post from Heavy Blues Rockers Toe Fat. This series will really feature some of the early influences on the development of early Hard Rock & Heavy Metal to the seeds of the modern variants. Posts will included Blues Master Elmore James, Heavy Blues Rockers like The Jeff Beck Group, The Animals & Cream. Hard Rock from Golden Earing, Aerosmith, and Deep Purple. As well as the Punk Rock bands that inspired the Underground Metal scenes of the 1980s. as well as New Wave Of British Heavy Metal Bands to Thrash and beyond.

Our Salute To Progressive Rock Bands continues with a soundboard recording from early in British Prog Band National Health's career. Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson, Genesis) is still a member at this point.

We also have a show from recently lost Punk Rock influence Sylvain Sylvain of The New York Dolls. He passed away January 13, 2021 at the age of 69 from cancer.

That's what we have for you new this time. Things are starting to settle down a little bit here so I hope to get back to a more regular schedule for postings.

Leroy "Lonnie" Jordan is the only original member left in War. The band lost the rights to the name War in a 1990's court decision to their manager. Original members Howard E. Scott, Lee Oskar, Harold Brown and B.B. Dickerson now tour under the name The Lowrider Band.

This great War show just surfaced at The Traders Den on February 1, 2021 when it was shared by good1. I haven't seen it on any blogs yet. The recording while very listenable is not without some flaws. Like all soundboards I have heard from Rockefeller's in Dallas Texas the vocals are very high in the mix while the instruments for the most part are lower in the mix. This is probably to do with the size of the venue. At smaller clubs things like drums, bass and electric guitar can be heard fine being low in the mix due to their loud nature. Vocals usually run louder than these instruments in a small club so that they may be heard over the much louder instruments. This is still a great show and a nice 3 hour listen!

Another band who is more known for the fact that a future member of Uriah Heep came from their ranks. The band is more of a Hard Rocking Blood, Sweat & Tears than an early Hard Rock group like Toe Fat. I think all lovers of the 1970's Jazz Rock & R & B bands will like The Keef Harley Band.

This is our first ever Jazz On Sunday post picked by Rosebud. Rosebud usually picks Heavy Metal or Hard Rock bands with the occasional off pick here or there. She's usually note much of a Jazz fan. When I was previewing this recording for posting Rosebud spoke up saying "I really like this one, they've played some pretty melodies. This is the kind of Jazz I like, not the kind that sounds like nobody on stage is playing the same song (lmao). She then said that I should post this one on the site. I told her that was a great idea, I hadn't thought of that.

This is a great show and I couldn't think of a better way to pay tribute to the life of Sylvain Sylvain

Alan Gowen passed away in 1981 from leukemia, he was 47.

For this weeks installment of our Tribute To Progressive Rock Bands we have a nice one from the British Prog-Band National Health. This was still pretty early in the bands career having formed in 1975. This incarnation of the band never released a studio album. The self titled first album was released in 1978. By then Bill Bruford had left National Health and formed Bruford. His replacement was Pip Pyle formerly of Gong. Bass player Mont Campbell left before the first album as well. He was replaced by Neil Murray who later went on to Rainbow and Black Sabbath. National Health actually worked with members of Henry Cow for their second album (awh man to have some soundboard quality recordings of Henry Cow).

The music is mostly instrumental, vocalist Amanda Parsons really sings mostly octave vocalizations when she does sing. Download this show for a glimpse at a quick passing ship in the prolific career of Bill Bruford

Out of print King Biscuit Flower Hour release. King Biscuit Records went out of business some years ago. Lemmy never considered this a legitimate release. It remains out of print due to Lemmy's dislike of this era of the band. Lemmy did release the 1983 show from The Manchester Apollo with the Remastered Deluxe Edition of Another Perfect Day. That's why this is a great pick for Rosebud's Tribute To Her Favorite Singers. It was also scheduled to be up loaded for my series of Out Of Print Live Albums. Lemmy's "been up all night smoking and drinking whiskey" vocals may not be everyone's choice for a fave vocalist but Rosebud loves Lemmy and Motörhead. We have seen then many times together. I came home from work one night, washed then sat down for dinner (I worked later than her and thankfully she would make dinner for us before I  got home). I found tickets to Motörhead on my plate. She's surprised me that way a lot, including Emerson, Lake & Palmer (main floor 6th row center!!), Morbid Angel, Frank Marino, Charlie Daniels, Cryptopsy etc...I Love My Wife!!
