This is a great show remastered by Goody so it sounds awesome. The problem with this one is just a small little detail that means a lot....No one said what kind of recording they were working with FM broadcast, TV broadcast, soundboard, excellent audience, or soundboard audience matrix. With the sound I hear I decided I would guess at a soundboard matrix.

The stage sound is awesome so it could be an FM recording. The only thing is how good you hear the audience. You hear a taper saying "grab the cord I wanna move up.." and "hurry up gimme some battaries". So you see the dilemma hear...All in all it's a minor detail but a huge detail too. I don't like posting a source without identifying it but this thing is too good to not post!!!

Composer, Player, Innovator, Jazz Icon, Legend Wayne Shorter has died at the age of 89. No cause of death was given. Wayne Shorter is/was/always will be one of my favorite Jazz Musicians Of All Time. From his work with Miles Davis to his days in Weather Report to his solo endeavors and his many projects with Herbie Hancock, the man is nothing less than Phenomenal!! He has the awards to prove it too! From Downbeat's Reader's Poll's New Star Saxophonist in 1962, his 1st Grammy Award, with Weather Report Best Jazz Fusion Performance in 1979 for their 8:30 album. He won a Best Improvised Jazz Solo Grammy in 2023 for his track "Endangered Species". Wayne had retired from the road due to heath conditions that made it to hard to do so in 2018 but kept recording till he couldn't anymore (respect, much respect). His presence in the Jazz World will be sorely missed.

You also get 3 different eras from Miles' career. Ever the innovator Miles Davis was The Jazz equivalent of a musical Camelion like David Bowie. His musical direction changed with a beat of a heart. Jazz fans, as well as Miles Davis fans look at the names I already dropped as featured on the album. Can it get any better than to have a compilation with some of the greatest players to emerge from  the Miles Davis band.

What can I say about The Legendary Herbie Hancock that I haven't said already. For that matter the same goes for Wayne Shorter and Dave Holland. There are 17 Herbie Hancock related shows on the site (here), 10 Wayne Shorter related shows (here), and a staggering 21 Dave Holland related shows (here). So I am going to concentrate my comments on the awe inspiring performance on the drums by Brian Blade. Brian Blade has recorded/performed with more Jazz artists than I want to name here but Chick Corea, Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldah & Daniel Lanois have all used Brian for drums. Brian is the perfect anchor for the wandering improvisation that Herbie, Wayne & Dave want to present here. The man can go from powerhouse to soft inflections on a dime. Weather Report has had a few  people flow through their line up but this is one of my favorites. The band has Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius and Joe Zawinul for one. They also have the some what lesser known Alex Acuna and Manolo Badrena, who have played with more people than I could list. So much talent involved and they live up to it. I never caught Weather Report in concert so have a recording from a Michigan show was extra special.

Joe Zawinul passed away September 11, 2007 from a rare skin cancer, he was 75.

Jaco Pastorius passed away at age 35 September 21, 1987 due to injuries from a bar fight.

In my haste to make my last post I didn't do a very good search and posted a show from Miles Davis that had been released on the Bootleg Series #3 Miles At The Fillmore. So I had to delete that post. So then I had to come up with a show from the same line-up and same quality. This recording is just that. Containing both the early and late shows from the Sextet's March 6, 1970 appearance at The Fillmore East. The March 7, 1970 show was released as It's About Time in 2001 but this show remains unreleased. Many consider this show to be superior to the official March 7 release. This two night stand was the last shows that Wayne Shorter would play with Miles Davis.

If your like me you always need at least 2 nice sounding gigs (or as many as you can get) from a certain era of a performer. If that's so grab this one, you will not be disappointed.

The Théâtre Antique was built in the First Century of the Christian era of the Roman Empire. It was the second largest the largest in Gaul with a capacity of 13,000 spectators. The modern capacity is held to 8000. The amphitheater has an annual concert series from Jazz to Pop, as well as hosting plays.
