This weeks installment of our Tribute To Progressive Rock Bands is from The Moody Blues. The Moody Blues brand of Cosmic brand of Progressive Rock grew from a base of R & B and Psychedelia. Together with mind expanding lyrics and pseudo-symphonics the Moody's have crafted a very recognizable sound. This sound and style has carried them from the 1960s to the 2000s with a very loyal following. The bands haunting 1967 single "Nights In White Satin" is still in Heavy Rotation on all Classic Rock Radio Stations and is one of the most recognizable singles from the Classic Rock & Classic Prog-Rock eras. The album it came from 1967s Days Of Future Passed was an experiment in the modern stereophonic sound & recording techniques. This experiment grabbed the attention of the 1960's Pop/Rock audiences now experimenting with mind expanding substances. As the growth in experimentalism in mind expanding substances & spiritual expanding teachings grew so grew the experiment in Progressive Musical Soundscapes. The two would forever be linked.

This tour came after a 6 year hiatus for The Moody Blues. After the success of the Seventh Sojourn LP and tour The Moody Blues went on a long hiatus so that the members could release some solo material and spend time with their families. During the interviews of this recording the band actually admits that they just couldn't stand one another any more. After 6 years they decided to get back together and see if the magic was still there. Thankfully it was and the band wrote and recorded the Octave LP and the fans were more than pleased. We lost Ray Thomas January 4, 2018 at the age of 76, no cause of death has been released.

Draftervoi's Notes:
This was part of a three cd set of a Labor Day special, featuring sets by Stevie Nicks, Kansas, and the Moody Blues.  I only have the Moody Blues set.  It appears that the common theme is that the bands were all recorded at the Whisky A Go Go, a small nightclub that holds about 250 people.  As such, the room ambiance is different from the usual Moody Blues usual "amphitheater" sound; you really feel they're close to the audience.

The syndicating network is Entertainment Radio Networks, which is much less common than King Biscuit, Westwood One, or NBC's The Source shows.

The cue sheet has "Question" identified as "Christian."  There is a song listed after that as "Ceasar," which is presumably "See-Saw" (as in "Ride My See-Saw", and yes, "Ceasar" is not spelled correctly).  It is likely that the performance continued on after "Question" and that further song(s) were cut to fit the one hour format.

I left in the X Files premiere commercial because I liked the X Files.  The other commercials were edited out.  I repaired a few minor digi-glitch pops and normalized each track.

Our first Moody Blues post at The New JDP is a nice sounding recording that supposedly comes from 1981. The bootleg art work has no information other than "Recorded Live 82 FM". At any rate this is a fine performance from the band so if you are a Moody Blues fan grab this one.
